I need to tell Rhet about this. Its’ a step to get to know his brother more.
“But life doesn’t have that in the cards for me. So, I play with the hand I was given, you feel me?”
I nod. “Yes, I do.”
“Let’s eat and get you back into the office.”
Do I want to go back in right now? No, but I need to decide what I’m going to do with Mr. C’s threat.
RHET
Sitting behind my office desk I smooth my hand over the phone, staring at the picture of Carson and Zeeta. I feel like chopping his hand off for touching what’s mine. If Draven wasn’t there, I wonder what would have happened? I want to know why the hell is my enemy talking to my girl.
The knock on my door takes me away from my thoughts. I look up and in walks the object of my affection.
“Hey.” She walks around my desk and kisses me.
“How was your day?” I ask as my eyes track her every move.
“Oh, um, great. I have a meeting in a few minutes.”
She moves to her desk, powering up her laptop. I sigh, feeling like I’m about to lose it all.
“How do you know Carson?” I make my way to her.
She gazes at me. “He is the sponsor for my brother’s treatment.”
Well, this is new, I know Carson has his hands in the medical field, I never stopped to check if the clinic was his.
I twist my phone and hold it up to show her the picture on the screen. She moves forward, leans in and squints.
“Why the fuck is he touching you like that?” I’m trying to keep it together, to keep my anger and frustration in.
“I have some billing issues and he wanted to discuss it. I didn’t want to,” she replies quickly.
“Whatever the cost, tell Julian. Have him take care of it.” I lock my phone, and place it in my pocket.
“No, I have this.” She averts her face from mine.
I reach across the desk, feeling a need to protect her. “Tell Julian the cost. Or I will personally take care of it.”
She nods her head. “Okay.”
“Good.” I lean in and kiss her. She doesn’t know it, but I will be paying Carson a visit. He shouldn’t touch what’s not his.
I turn and walk back to my desk.
“I have something to talk to you about,” she says.
“What?” I sit as I begin to pack for my brief meeting.
“It’s about Draven.” She comes to stand in front of me while pulling at her thumb.
“What about him?”
“He wants to be a pediatric doctor.”
I let this new information register in my brain and then I remember who Draven is. I double over and laugh.
