“Another night, maybe,” I said, trying to save the conversation.
She smiled again and nodded, brushing her hand across my shoulder.
“Maybe after that we can get a room in the city,” she smiled, sitting on the bed next to me.
I returned her smile, but looked down at the coffee cup in my hand. I was far less interested in fucking Larissa than I thought I would be.
Something that I had thought about for years was now not a priority to me.
Coming to my rescue, Antoni stuck his head into the room.
“Sorry to interrupt,” he said, stepping inside.
“It’s fine,” I said.
“Good,” he smirked, “cause I’m not actually sorry.”
Larissa scrunched up her face at him, rolling her eyes.
Toni held up his phone, waving it in front of my face.
“Someone wants to talk to you.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Just-” he sighed, shoving the phone into my hands, “okay?”
I pursed my lips and put the phone to my ear.
“Yeah?”
“Hey loser,” a voice chimed through the phone.
“Val?” I sat up in bed.
“How’s my favourite brother?”
Toni leaned forward, closer to the phone, “I can fucking hear you, you know?” he snapped.
Val laughed though the phone, “I know he can, that’s why I said it.”
“What’s going on? How are you?” I leaned forward.
I couldn’t remember the last time that I had spoken to Valerie.
Since she and Ren fled the country, we had hardly any contact with either of them. I knew that they had been enjoying their time together in Sweden, but I couldn’t help but selfishly wish that they would come home.
Even Ren was like another older brother to me, and was always someone who got me more than even Toni did.
“We’re good, actually. Toni just told us the good news.”
“So you’re coming home?”
She sighed through the phone, “not yet, Sam. Ren wants to make sure that things die down before we take the risk.”
“Okay,” I said, running my hands through my hair.
“Are you alone?”
