“Sorry,” he slowed, smiling down at me.
I shook my head and returned the grin as he wrapped an arm around my neck, pulling me close and planting a kiss on top of my head.
We got into the car, and he started it up.
We’d been together now for over nine months, and this was still only the third time I had let him drive my car. And with the way that he flung it in a circle in front of the shop - I made a mental note to make it the last time he was behind the wheel of her.
We drove along in silence, with his hand rested on my thigh the whole time.
There was music playing lightly from the stereo, but it was drowned out by the loud rumble of the engine.
We did this a lot lately.
Sometimes we would drive around for hours, just silently enjoying each others company. Sometimes we would talk, occasionally, I even got him into a song or two.
But most of the time, it was just this.
Not an awkward silence.
It wasn’t that we had nothing to say to each other.
It was that we were both just comfortable.
Comfortable in the silence each others presence.
It was all I needed. Him nearby.
Whether he was sitting next to me in the car, or outside working on Jolene while I sat on my computer and did my own thing - him being around made everything so much better.
When I looked up I found that we were at the beach.
The sky was grey, so was the water. Dots of rain specked the windscreen, and I looked over at him with a raised eyebrow.
“What?” he asked.
“It’s raining.”
He blinked at me.
“What are we doing here?”
He shrugged.
I nodded.
He sighed, leaning back to retrieve something from his pocket. A piece of paper.
I raised an eyebrow at it, and he passed it to me.
“I’ve wanted to give you this for a long time.”
I frowned, looking down at his almost undecipherable handwriting.
“What-”
“You don’t have to do anything with it, okay? I want to make that clear.”
“Is this? Are you sure this is her?”
