“Well tonight we’re just going to figure out what we’re dealing with. Then I think the first plan of attack is to attach trackers to the cars and bikes and go from there. See what information we can get.”

Rome nodded, “Antoni did say that Sam was finally ready to step up now that Ren is gone.”

“Why is that?” I asked, taking off my glasses, “why is he not working with them instead?”

Rome shrugged and sighed, “Antoni’s been bugging him for years to get more involved, but he likes to just tinker around in his shop. Though, I have to admit, he is always there when they need him. I know something is serious when Tone is calling Sammy for help. But he prefers to keep to himself.”

I nodded. I could understand that.

The few times that I had been inside Rome and Antoni’s home made it clear how it would not be a great environment for an introverted person. I even hesitated to call it a home, since it was so constantly packed with people.

It was a home office that they lived in, more than anything.

Sam had even said himself that he was not like Toni. That he was not calm and calculating like him. It only made me wonder what he was actually like.

Could he really be more dangerous than the Don himself?

Sammy

Livie parked her car around the back of the shop, and slid into the front seat of mine.

“I thought you said weweren’ttaking the old Holden?” she smirked, leaning over and putting her backpack in the back seat.

“Well, she’s my baby. I didn’t want her to get jealous.”

She rolled her eyes a little and shook her head.

“Plus, it’s a little more inconspicuous than some of the other cars I own. We can blend in better in Jolene.”

“Jolene?” Livie raised her eyebrows.

I frowned, “that’s her name.”

Jolene may have been one of the oldest in my car collection, and worth the least financially - but she was my favourite. Something about the shape of the classics always caught my eye. They were harsh, and boxy, and bold. The newer sports cars were sleek, and clean, and getting smaller every year.

Jolene was also pretty quiet in comparison to some others, which would be helpful for our operation tonight.

I pulled out of the parking area behind my shop and onto the quiet road.

“Where are we going first?” Livie asked, tying her hair up into a high ponytail.

“Well, the Redliner’s have two bases that we’re aware of, and one bar that they frequent. I thought we could hit the bases first, and then the bar. Take a tally of the cars and bikes.”

She nodded once, and the rest of the drive to the outer suburbs of the city was silent except for the low rumbling coming from Jolene. I came to a stop down the road from the base that we know they used most often.

It was also the same place where the shoot-out had happened a few weeks ago.

The echoing sound of gunshots, and Toni’s voice yelling orders, filled my head as I looked at the rundown house.

“You okay?” Livie asked, snapping her fingers in front of my face.

I blinked, and looked at her, forcing a smile.

I nodded once and she narrowed her eyes at me.
