I snorted, “what?”
“We both saw how she reacted, and you’re right, I’ve always been available for her. What if we make her think I’m not? Then maybe she’ll realise that she does feel something for me?”
“That is ridiculous,” I shook my head. “Do you really have so little self esteem?”
He frowned, “yes.”
I sighed, and shook my head again as I looked at his pleading eyes.
“Please, Livie. Can we try?”
“You want me to pretend to be your girlfriend, so this girl that you like will get jealous and hopefully want to date you?”
“Just while you’re here. We have to spend this time together anyway, and if after the two weeks it hasn’t worked then I’ll admit you were right.”
I shook my head again, and turned back to my computer and scrolled mindlessly as I thought. I felt sympathy for the guy, obviously. But I didn’t understand at the same time. Samuel was hot in every definition of the word, he was tall, muscular, handsome face - he could have any girl he wanted, except for this princess who very obviously didn’t want him.
“Fine,” I said softly.
“Yes?” his eyebrows shot up.
“Two weeks, is all you get.”
“I’ll pay you back somehow, I promise.”
“Just…” I sighed, “just promise that if this doesn’t work you’ll at least try to move on? Come on, mate, I’m sure you could do better than this girl.”
He scoffed, “I’ve been with other girls. You don’t think I’ve tried to move on? I wouldn’t be asking this so pathetically if I could just move on.”
“Fine, fine,” I waved a hand in his face, “enough with the sob story, I already said yes.”
“Will you come to my family’s barbeque tomorrow night?”
I let out a frustrated sigh, “what?”
“She’ll be there. I figured we can put on a show for her.”
“Will Rome be there?”
He nodded quickly, his expression much perkier than it was a few moments ago.
“Fine.”
“Thank you,” he said, wrapping his arms around me in a tight bear-hug.
I pushed him away, laughing, “get off.”
“Sorry, babe,” he cooed, his hand on the office door.
I shook my head and tried to ignore the smile on his face before he left the office, leaving me alone.
I put my head in my hands and sighed.
Great.
