“So, what’s our story?” she asked.
“Story?”
“You know, people are going to ask how we got together. We need a believable story.”
“I don’t know. You were working for me, and we just fell for each other?”
“No,” she shook her head, “it needs to be cuter than that if you wanna make the princess jealous.”
“Fine,” I cleared my throat, “we met at Rome and Toni’s wedding. Your beauty overwhelmed me, your laughter charmed me, and your wit floored me,” I added a dramatic twist of my hand over my forehead. I turned to her and tipped her chin upwards with my finger, “and I knew that I had to make you mine from the minute I laid eyes on you.”
“Wow,” she laughed.
“I’ve seen a lot of romancey movies,” I shrugged, “I have two sisters.”
“I don’t know, sounds like you may have used that line before.”
I looked down at her from the corner of my eye and smirked, “once or twice.”
“I guess it’ll do,” she chuckled again.
We entered together through the back gate, and instantly eyes were on us.
It took Livie’s gentle tug to stop me from turning around and leaving. It would be enough of a shock to everyone that I came to one of these things, let alone with a woman. I had never brought a girl home, or introduced them to family - for obvious reasons.
Not that I had had any long term relationships.
Flings, sure.
One night stands, you betcha.
Relationships… eh.
I enjoyed my alone time, and I had always had my eyes set on one person.
And there she stood, staring daggers at us both with those emerald green eyes. Livie noticed Larissa’s gaze too, and pulled me closer, leaning her head against my shoulder.
I made the effort to keep the smile on my face, and we shuffled through the scattered groups of people towards Rome and Toni.
Toni had a smirk on his face, but Rome wore a frown.
“I knew you two would hit it off,” Toni said, clapping me on the back.
“I don’t know what to say,” I shrugged.
It sounded like I was agreeing with him, but I was just stating a truth.
“It’s funny to see-”
“What are you two up to?” Rome cut him off.
One thing that I had learned about my new sister-in-law, was that she had an excellent bullshit filter.
Would Larissa see right through our act too?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Livie said sweetly, nudging her friend.
“Have you heard from Val?” I asked, changing the subject.
