“Yep,” Danny waved, walking over to his own.

“I’ll take you home,” I said to Liv and she nodded.

She sighed as she hopped into the car.

“I’m gonna change your licence plate tomorrow, maybe make a few mods to change the car up a little more.”

She only nodded.

“I’m sorry you had to go through that,” I said quietly. “I shouldn’t have roped you into all of this.”

She shook her head, “It’s fine, Sam. I’m just a little shaken, but I’m okay. Really.”

I nodded, and turned up the radio as we drove, knowing that it might cheer her up.

We pulled up at her apartment building and she hugged her backpack as she stepped out of my car.

“So,” I sighed, “I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“Bright and early,” she smiled, waving at me through the window.

I nodded and watched her until she was safe inside her building and then drove away. I had dragged this girl into not one but two of my life problems, and made them her own.

But there was no going back now, I couldn’t do it without her.

Chapter 13

Livie

Rome gave me a lift into the workshop in the morning, and didn’t ask a single question about where my car was. I assumed that she would have found out everything from Antoni already.

Sam smiled a sad looking smile as I walked in, and continued working on the car on the hoist without looking at me again.

Later on, he came into the office without a word and sat beside me.

“I’m fine, Sam. I promise.”

He nodded, swinging back and forth in his chair, chewing on his fingernails.

“I knew what I was signing up for, and it’s not like that was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I do work with Rome, remember?”

“Yes,” he nodded, “I know all about Lilith’s Daughters and what you get up to,” he smirked. “That’s not what I’m worried about.”

“Well, what is the problem? Cause you’ve been sulking all morning, and it’s not a good look on you.”

He chuckled, and actually cracked a real smile.

“I-” he sighed, “I’m worried that I’ve asked too much of you. I’ve put you in a lot of danger, helping us with the Redliners, and this pretend dating thing and Larissa. I don’t know.”

He rubbed the back of his neck and looked to the ground.

“Sammy,” I chuckled, “it’s fine. Okay? I want to help.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“Sure,” I shrugged, “I mean. Rome is a part of The Family too, that means your problems are our problems. I’d do anything to help her. And the whole thing with Larissa, well…”
