I reversed, and pulled into a side street before driving past their house slowly. The blinds didn’t move, the door didn’t open.
So they mustn’t have been on too high alert.
“This is fucking dangerous,” I said. “You should’ve let me drop you home.”
“And how would you have done it alone?” she snapped.
“The old fashioned way,” I smirked.
She rolled her eyes at me, “yeah right. Setting off an alarm issuperlow key.”
I sighed, and drove around the block until we were back in our spot.
I pulled on my mask.
“Alright,” I said slowly, “let’s go.”
Livie nodded, but neither of us moved.
“Liv,” I said, “really. I can do this alone.”
She shook her head, but still didn’t move.
“No one will hurt you okay?” I said, reaching and grabbing her hand for a split second.
She looked down at it, and back up at me, before nodding. She took a breath and pulled her mask back over her face.
“On the count of three?” she said softly.
I smiled and nodded.
“One.”
“Two.”
I took a deep breath and Livie clutched her backpack, “three.”
We hopped out of the car and raced towards the house, pressing our bodies against the tall metal fence and disappearing into the shadows. We waited, waiting to hear whether we had been noticed.
I looked towards my car, which I had left running, and made sure it was still there. Livie handed me the relay box with a shaky hand and I grabbed it, stepping through the damp grass and scanning the side of the house.
I watched Livie as she stood by King’s car, waiting for it to beep.
A few moments later, I heard the click.
I looked up towards the sky and thanked the heavens.
Livie opened the car door, and I headed towards her. She handed me her backpack as she leant under the steering wheel, fixing the dongle into place. She let out a sigh of relief as she closed the car door, and locked it again.
She reached for her backpack and her hand grazed mine. We locked eyes through our masks. I don’t know whether it was the adrenaline from what we had just done, the conversations we had in the car, or the memories from the night we fucked in the back of Jolene. But the combination of those things ended with her body pressed against King’s car, and my lips against hers.
My hands roamed over her, down the curve of her back and the dip of her waist and under her thighs. I picked her up, putting her on the hood of King’s car and our mouths found each other again.
We were lost in it, so much so, that I forgot where we were - until we heard a noise from inside the house.
We both froze, and the noise got closer.
I dragged her off the hood of the car and placed her down on the grass, and we sprinted back towards the Corolla. We reached it, and jumped inside, closing the doors and ducking in our seats just as the front door opened.
