I put my headphones on and skimmed through some of the recordings from the phone calls made over Bluetooth within the cars.
While I listened, I checked the trackers.
Nothing.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I took off my headphones, spinning around.
“Hey,” Sam smiled down at me.
“Hi,” I said, turning back to the screen.
“How are you?” he said awkwardly, and I snorted a laugh.
“What do you want, Sam?”
“Well since I asked how you were, I’d like to know how you are?” he said, without sounding sure.
“I’m good. How did last night go?”
He sighed, leaning against the counter and shrugged, “I dunno.”
“What do you mean you ‘dunno’?”
He shrugged again.
“Well do you at least have a second date?”
He nodded.
“Well it couldn’t have been too bad, could it?”
He shrugged.
I rolled my eyes and turned back to my screen.
“Did you at least wear the navy shirt?”
He chuckled, “yes. She liked it.”
“Yeah, well I told ya.”
“Look, Livie, I-”
“Shh,” I said, as I began to hear crackling through my headphones.
“No, I just wanna say that-”
“Will you shut the fuck up?” I hissed. “Come here.”
I picked up my headphones and I held one cup to my ear.
Sammy put his head close to mine, and listened in too.
“- ready. We’re headed to the drop now.”
“Well you better fucking make sure it goes right. Make sure no fucking Santino’s see you. Take the long way if you have to.”
“Sure, boss. It’ll all be there.”
