She pursed her lips at me and then looked back over to the boys.

“You’ll need to make sure you put as much distance between yourself and the vehicles as possible, I can’t be worrying about taking someone else out accidentally. I’m going to crash the cars as quickly as I can. If you get in the way, you’ll get caught up in that.”

“Liv and I will be organising something to destroy the contents of the warehouse. Whether that’s a bomb or something similar, we’re not sure yet what our options are that will guarantee no civilians are hurt,” Antoni continued. “But if worse comes to worse, we’ll have to do it manually by fire.”

The boys nodded and I looked at my shoes.

“Problem, Sam?” Antoni asked.

I shook my head.

“Good. I’ll brief the rest of The Family tonight. Angel and Dimitri will be by later on to help you prepare.”

Antoni nodded his head in a way that signalled that we were dismissed.

Everyone quickly busied themselves with preparing the guns, the ammo, the cars - everything that we could need to pull off one of our most dangerous missions yet. I knew that this was child’s play for Antoni, but it would be one of the bigger jobs that I was involved in.

Livie was, as usual, hunched over her computer.

And with Antoni hovering over her shoulder, pointing at her screen as they spoke, it was impossible to get a moment alone with her. I knew that I needed to talk to her, but I had no idea what I could even say.

I busied myself, taking number plates off of the cars that we would use, forcing myself not to look in the direction of the office. All of our heads spun around in unison towards the front door when there was a knock on it.

Everybody froze, nobody breathed.

Antoni had his hand on the gun in his waistband, and nodded at me.

I went towards the door, opening it only a little to see who it was. I peered outside, and there was a short man standing there. He wore a tight shirt, only accentuating the fact that it looked like he only hit the gym to work on his arms, and entirely ignored the lower half of his body. I narrowed my eyes and looked him up and down.

“We’re closed today, mate,” I said, going to shut the door in his face.

But he reached out, stopping the metal door from closing and he pushed it back open. He returned my gaze, looking me up and down as if he were sizing me up, assessing whether or not he could beat me in a fight.

He could not.

“I’m here to see Olivia.”

I raised an eyebrow, “Olivia?”

He nodded once, trying to look over my shoulder and into the workshop.

I shifted my weight, blocking his view.

“Liv,” I called over my shoulder.

She gave me an uneasy frown as she approached us.

“What?” she asked, before stopping in her tracks as she noticed the man in the doorway. “Evan?”

“Hey Oli,” he smiled down at her.

“What are you doing here?” she asked, stepping outside of the shop.

I followed, and closed the door behind me.

He gave me a look as I did it, his jaw hardening. But he must’ve known that he was an idiot for thinking I would leave him alone with her.

“I heard that you’ve been working here, and they won’t let me into Lilith’s so it was the only way I could see you.”
