“Did you maybe consider that I don’t want to see you?” she crossed her arms.
I tried to hide my smile, but couldn’t.
“Can I help you, mate?” he turned his attention to me.
I shook my head.
“Can we have some privacy please?” he puffed his chest.
I shook my head again.
Evan rolled his eyes, and turned his attention back to Livie.
“Please Oli, we need to talk. I miss you, and I want to apologise.”
Livie sighed, and shook her head, “apology not accepted.”
“Just go to lunch with me, please,” he grabbed her by the hand and I wanted to break each of his fingers. “Give me a chance to explain myself.”
She scoffed at him, and I felt proud.
“Come on. There’s a few things I want to tell you. Things that I need to get off my chest. Please, Oli?” he tried again, and I felt nervous as I watched her soften at his begging.
She sighed, “fine. You get one hour. Let me get my things.”
He perked up, and she slipped back inside the workshop. He puffed his chest at me again, the arrogance exuding from his expression.
I shook my head and followed Liv inside, slamming the door behind me.
She was already coming back out from the office, backpack slung over her shoulder.
“You can’t be serious,” I said through gritted teeth.
“He’s harmless, Sam,” she rolled her eyes at me, continuing towards the door.
“The guy who hit you so badly that you flung yourself from a moving car? Yeah, he sounds great.”
“Look, it’s not like I’m going on a date or anything. I want to hear what he has to say for himself.”
She spun on her heel and headed back towards the door, and I grabbed her by the wrist, pulling her back towards me.
“Please,” I begged softly. “Please don’t leave with him.”
She looked up at me with those big, dark eyes, searching my face for answers.
“Why? Why do you care?”
I shook my head, “you know why.”
Livie blinked a few times, before looking towards her shoes.
She didn’t try and pull away, and I wasn’t daring to let go of her wrist.
I would lock her in the office if I could, if that’s what it would take to keep her here.
“I’ll be back,” she said quietly, turning her wrist out of my hold.
“Livie,” I said.
