Page 99 of Easy Steal

Rome rolled her eyes, casually leaning against the side of her car.

“Or maybe…” King continued, pacing around our cars, “it was this pretty little thing in the passenger seat.”

My hand twitched as he lowered himself to look inside the passenger window of Rome’s car where Livie still sat.

“Why does it matter, King?” Antoni said. “We all know who gave the order.”

King stood, looking Toni up and down with a crease between his eyebrows. Without breaking his eye contact with Toni, he yanked open the door. He pulled Livie out of the car by her bicep, which looked like a toothpick in King’s giant hands.

I was the first to aim my gun at his head, which was stupid of me because he noticed straight away. His head snapped to look at me for the first time, one of his eyebrows arching as he studied me.

“Ah, little Sammy,” he chuckled. “This one yours?”

I didn’t reply, but kept my gun trained steady on him.

With a rough tug, he pulled Livie along, away from the shelter of the cars and towards me. Livie pulled against his hold, but it was useless. She was half his size, in both height and width. I didn’t let myself look at her, and kept my gaze trained on King.

“Smart and pretty,” he ducked down, nuzzling his nose into Livie’s hair. “You’ve got a keeper here.”

I felt Toni’s fist bump against my leg for a moment, which took my attention off of King and Livie and on the Redliners that also had their own guns drawn and aimed all at me.

“I gotta say though,” he chuckled. “I did prefer your sister.”

With that he pushed Livie to the ground, throwing her to the side as bullets began to fly. It was impossible to know who took the first shot, because it all started at once.

I ducked next to Rome behind the door of her car to shield ourselves.

“I’ll cover you,” she said. “You need to get Livie to her laptop.”

“What?” I frowned, pointing my gun over her shoulder and catching a Redliner right in the middle of his chest.

“Get her to the computer!” Rome shouted, pushing me away.

I nodded, staying low and making my way around the car.

I bumped into a bikie as I shuffled round the back of the car, and he grabbed me by the neck of my shirt. I caught hold of his hands, twisting them so they would free from the fabric, and brought him forward, pulling him down as I raised my leg and kneed him in the face.

He groaned and stumbled, and I grabbed him by the back of the head and slammed it against the boot of the car. He fell to the ground in a heap.

I stepped over him and peered around the side of the car, and saw Livie with her gun aimed at me.

“Hey,” I put my hands in the air, and she let out a deep breath.

“I almost fucking killed you,” she snapped.

“I believe you,” I rolled my eyes, grabbing her by the wrist and dragging her behind me.

“What are we doing?”

“Rome said to get you to your computer.”

“What? Now? Already?” she stuttered.

I shrugged.

“Fuck,” she said, “okay.”

“Ready?” I said over my shoulder, and she nodded.
