His phone is lighting up.

Unable to look away, I quickly read the text message on the screen.

Unknown

Can you meet him here for another exchange?

Another exchange? That sounds…suspicious.

River’s and Kane’s voices carry over the landing and into his room. I quickly stop snooping and head over to the door.

“I can’t believe you brought a girl home,” my brother laughs. “Are you in love?”

“Fuck off,” Kane grumbles.

Coffee brews, and it reminds me that I’m in desperate need of a matcha latte. Anything to clear the brain fog I have that persuaded me to let Kane in between my legs.

What was I thinking?

I totally gave in to the enemy.

“So who is she?” River asks, clearly probing for information.

I bite my lip. How is Kane going to spin this? I press against the wall and wait until the coast is clear.

“Just some puck bunny.”

I cross my arms. I amnota puck bunny.

My brother snorts. “You and your slutty puck bunnies. I hope you wore protection or else you’ll be seeing me in the ER for crabs.”

Kane chuckles, and my face burns.

Slutty puck bunnies?

Just how many puck bunnies is he bringing home?

Jealousy rushes to my fingertips. I glance at my legs.Stay closed from here on out!

“Did you find Daisy?” Kane asks.

He is completely nonchalant, knowing very well that my brother didn’t find me, considering I’m upstairs now, regretting letting his best friend touch me.

“No. Her phone must be dead. Was she okay at the game?” River sounds worried.

“You should check the roof.”

I pop up from resting against the wall. The roof?

“Why would she be on the roof?” River snorts. “Did you lock her up there or something?”

Wouldn’t surprise me.

“She goes up there every morning. Probably to check on her soil,” Kane says.

How does he know that?

I move closer to the stairs to get a better listen.
