“There’s still time today?—”
“This afternoon, you’re making love to me on a conference room table in the WMP offices. They did say I could screw you any time I’d like.”
Laughing, she reached for his tie, untying it and pulling it free of his neck. “I do like the way you think, Counselor.”
“You haven’t answered my question, yet,” he said low and rough.
“Which question is that?”
“Will you marry me someday? When you’re ready?”
She shimmied out of her silk blouse and skinny skirt and struck a pose in front of him in her naughty lingerie and stiletto heels. His eyes blazed like a wildfire. “Promise to look at me like that for the rest of your life.”
“Done,” he declared promptly.
“Then we have a deal,” she replied, laughing as he swept her off her feet and laid her on the table. She stared up at him and he stared down at her. The humor faded, replaced by passion and more. So much more. Friendship. Mutual respect.
Love, her little voice whispered. The kind that will last a lifetime.
She said with certainty, “I’ll marry you whenever you want to do the deed.”
“Thank God for Alexei Koronov bringing us together,” he muttered against her lips, his breath incendiary on her flesh.
“Thank you for coming forward about Wendall Marcos and sacrificing your shot at a lucrative job here.”
He kissed his way down her throat, between her breasts and back to her face, his mouth hovering just above hers. “You’re welcome. And I’ve got all the private practice I’ll ever need. With you.”
“You’re so hokey.”
“And you love it.”
“I do. I love you, Cam.”
“Right back atchya baby. I love you, too.”
“You and me,” she whispered.
“A team. Forever.”
And they started their journey into forever right then and there.
