Becca thought about Tyler as she made her way back to her cabin. What were the odds of running into him?Astronomical, but that didn’t stop her from thinking about how delicious he looked.
More filled out than their college days, more handsome, more muscular, and damn, if he still didn’t make her panties wet. She’d forgotten how much Tyler always did that to her.
Yes, finding Alan in bed with her boss had been difficult, as was calling off the wedding and quitting her job.Still, that incident set off a chain of decisions she’d procrastinated about for too long.
She’d suspected Alan wasn’t the right man for her for the last eight months, but she’d gone along with the engagement party and the wedding planning to avoid making waves with her mother. The expression on Alan’s face when she walked in on them didn’t come close to her shock and disbelief, followed by anger, followed by a mixture of numbness, comprehension…
And relief.
The scene played out in her mind like a badly written movie script.Alan’s stunned expression, Rupert fumbling to cover himself.Staring at Alan, then Rupert.Taking off the engagement ring and putting it on the dresser.Hearing herself tell Alan she was relieved to finally understand why he wasn’t interested in sex with her. Then there was the almost unnatural calm that followed the jumbled emotions she still couldn’t sort out.“Go live your life and be your true self, Alan.If you’d been honest, we could’ve been friends.”She turned and left the room, still surprised her legs hadn’t turned to jelly. The doorknob turning as she opened the door to leave the apartment.“And Rupert, bag of shit that you are and always will be, I quit.”
Becca blinked when she found herself standing in front of her cabin. She’d been so lost in thought she didn’t realize she’d walked the whole way back.Today was a new start. That meant not thinking so much.Thinking too much was what spun her into the engagement to Alan. Her brain wasn’t exactly doing a great job with men, so maybe she should follow her body.
Tyler. Her body tingled.Yes, they’d been lovers in college and had fun together, but then went their separate ways. Now?They were different people, but she still desired him and his touch and nearness still weakened her knees.
She glanced at the clock. An hour. One hour to get ready for dinner. In that time, she would have to make a choice.Follow her mind, which told her she was on the rebound, or follow her desires?
This won’t be easy.
Chapter Two
Atsixonthenose, Becca strode into the dining room of the main ranch house. She couldn’t believe how quick time slipped by now that she’d come to some conclusions about her life and her needs.
Smiling, she glanced around the room. She was greeted by six people sitting at the table. They all looked like couples, and she fought against squirming with anxiety because she was alone. Her stomach tightened, and she had to remind herself that she didn’t need to feel out of place because she was single. There was nothing wrong with it.
She was about to pull a chair out when her nerves tingled.
“Allow me.”
Tyler.Only his voice could make her pussy cream like that.“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”His breath brushed against her ear as she sat.A shiver of excitement traveled through her body.
Lord, he could still arouse her with his voice.Hadn’t she been reminded of that at the stable? Then his heat cooled as he took his place on her left. That was when she spotted a man she hadn’t noticed before at the other end of the table.
He grinned from ear to ear.“Welcome, everyone,” he said.“I’m Jared, and at the opposite end is my business partner, Tyler. We want to welcome you to Quick Silver Ranch.”
Jared glanced around the table, his gaze lingering on the empty chair on Becca’s right.
I wonder if they’re missing a guest.
“If you need anything,” he continued.“All you have to do is ask.We will do our best to provide you with whatever you desire.”
Laughter floated in the air, but Becca wasn’t sure why.
“I can’t wait to try out what you’re providing,” the man on Tyler’s right said.
More laughter.
“We’ll do our best to keep up with you,” Jared said.“Tonight is a chance for everyone to get acquainted.Tomorrow, your adventure starts.”
As if on cue, a large man and several other people carried bowls and platters of food into the dining room. The smell of roast beef and freshly baked bread made Becca’s mouth water.
When was the last time I ate?Last night?
Plates were filled, and everyone began introducing themselves over the wonderful food.Becca found she was right: The others were all couples, and one of the couples had stayed at the ranch before.
