Bambi is just staring at the wall, so I calmly walk over to the chair to sit down with her. She looks toward me and smiles.
“Well, hi. Are you gonna stay for lunch?”
Taking her hand in mine, I bring it up to my lips for a quick kiss.
“I’m gonna stay forever, angel.”
Bambi just smiles at me as I pick up the TV remote and click it on.
“What are we going to watch, Sawyer?”
I rub the back of her hand with my thumb as I click through the channels.
“Whatever you want. Lilah will be back with some lunch soon.”
“Wonderful.”
About ten minutes go by when Lilah knocks and brings a cart of food in for all of us.
We sit and eat while Bambi watches a soap opera. She’s zoned out and falls asleep. I slowly take her tray away and tuck her into bed, turning the TV off.
Lilah motions for me to step out of the room with her, so I follow. Once she shuts the door, Lilah leans on the wall and takes a deep breath.
“I’m worried about her. Not just her battle with her injuries, but the ones she’s fighting in her mind. I’m gonna talk to Willow, but Bambi needs some serious therapy.”
I nod my head in agreement. “She’s been through hell and back, sis. But she’s tough and has us. Bambi can get through anything.”
Lilah hugs me. “I’m so happy for you, Sawyer. Now go in there and spend some time with your woman. I’ll have one of the nurses bring a list of places to call for therapists.”
I hug her tight before she walks away to help her other patients. I quietly sneak back into Bambi’s room and lean against the wall to watch her sleep.
My poor angel is dealing with so much, and I feel like there’s nothing I can do. I just want to take away all her pain so she can live the bright life she deserves.
Plopping down in the chair, I gently take her hand in mine as I lay back and take out my phone. I need to find out exactly what I can do to help her.
There’s no way she could go back to her apartment right now. I’m going to make sure my whole house is outfitted for her.
I search at home coping techniques when one of the nurses quietly comes in. She places a sheet of paper on the table and smiles as she leaves the room.
Picking it up, I start to research all the places on the list. I want the best for my woman and was damn sure going to make that happen. I don’t care if I have to drive hours for the best care in the world. Bambi deserves the best this world has to offer.
I get about halfway through the list when my eyes feel heavy. I mark the list so I know where I left off and turn most of the lights off.
I leave a few low ones on so Bambi doesn’t wake up to pure darkness. Turning the TV on, I pick cartoons and lean back in the chair.
Bambi stirs in her sleep and I take her hand in mine to assure her I’m right here.
“Come lay with me, please.”
I look over to see her smiling at me with those beautiful baby blue eyes. Climbing into the small hospital bed, I wrap my arms around her and happily sigh.
“Goodnight, angel. I love you more than anything.”
“I love you, Sawyer.”

TWO WEEKS HAVE PASSEDand Bambi finally got the okay to be discharged... again. Her wounds have healed enough that she can leave and come back once a week to get them checked.
