I smiled at the young kid. “Hey, Beckett. You know you can walk next to me and not behind me like a creep.”
He laughed as he came to stand next to me. “I just didn’t want to cross any lines. Plus, I enjoy seeing everything around you.”
We walked down Main Street toward the diner.
“So they have you watching me, huh?”
He shrugged. “Yeah. But I don’t mind. I get to keep you safe and save me from cleaning the clubhouse.”
I laughed as we got closer to the diner. I turned to Beckett and tilted my head.
“How long have you been watching me?”
“A while now. But I’ll make sure you know I’m there from now on. Maybe it will deter anybody from coming close to you.” He glared at somebody behind me. “Like this crazy bitch. What the fuck is it with the redheads in this town? Crazy. Every single last one.”
I turned to see Fran walking toward me. Beckett moved me behind him and crossed his arms.
“Hey there, handsome. I just wanted to talk to my friend for a quick second. Then maybe I can get a quick second with you.”
Fran winked, but Beckett stood like a statue.
“Nope. Sav is not your friend, and cunt isn’t my type. Move along.”
Her smile flopped, and a scowl returned in its place.
“You don’t know who you’re messing with, little boy.”
Beckett threw back his head and laughed. “Fucking try me.”
The diner door flew open and Moose descended the steps.
“Fran. Leave or cops get called.”
She flipped her hair and pushed past Beckett, hitting me as well. Beckett went to go after her, but I grabbed his arm.
“It’s not worth it. Let’s just get inside.”
He nodded and moved behind me as we walked inside the diner. Flowers lined the counter, making me stop in my tracks.
I turned to see Moose shaking his head behind me.
“Are these... did he…?”
“Yup. All of them, babe.”
I just stared at all the flowers lining the counter. Could it be that I underestimated Hawk? Shaking my head, I turned to Moose.
“Why?”
Beckett cleared his throat behind me.
“I’m gonna take a wild guess and say cause he loves you?”
I glared at him, and Moose chuckled.
“He doesn’t love me.”
Tears dripped down my face, and Moose rushed over, wrapping me in his arms.
