“Princess, it's not a big deal. I would rather have you safe here, where I can keep an eye on you. Now, let me get the kids to bed and then we can talk more, okay?”
I nodded and watched as he walked out. Looking around me, I unpacked a few of my things. I hung everything up I needed and set up my charging station.
I grabbed my laptop and tiptoed down the steps to the kitchen. I needed to do a bit of work to occupy my mind.
Sitting down, I turned it on and pulled up my email. I had answered a few emails when Moose came walking down the steps and over to the table.
“Come with me.”
I closed my laptop and followed him down a set of steps into the basement. At the end of the steps was a huge metal door.
Moose pressed his thumb to a screen, and another screen popped up. A red light scanned across his face and spoke out in a robotic voice.
“Please enter your password and pin.”
Moose stood in front of the screen and pressed a few buttons. The door made a clunking sound, and then he opened it.
We stepped inside and I stood there in shock. The room was filled with screens and many monitors.
“Moose... this is. Holy shit.”
He shrugged and sat in a large black office chair.
“I told you I like techie shit.”
I laughed, and he pulled me into a smaller chair next to him. Moose moved around his mouse and press a few keys on his keyboard.
The security cameras from the hotel popped up on the screen directly in front of us. Moose moved the first camera to another screen and did the same with the others.
I glanced at him, and he just smiled.
“Is this legal?”
Moose laughed. “Don’t ask questions you don’t really want to know the answers to.”
His eyes glanced at each screen as I tried to keep up. He moved more screens around and pressed more buttons, bringing up videos from around town as well.
“Holy shit.”
He nodded. “I do this to keep the people I care about safe. We’ve had too much shit happen. Whoever did this to you kept their face pretty hidden. No license plate on the car so it’s probably stolen.”
I sighed. “Well, fuck.”
Moose winked at me. “Don’t worry, princess. I’ll find out who it was. I have my ways. Why don’t you try to get some sleep.”
“I’m good. There’s no way I can sleep tonight, anyway. I’m too wired up.”
“You should at least try.”
I glared at him and stood with my hands on my hips.
“Are you trying to get rid of me so you can do some more illegal things?”
He laughed and pointed to the door.
“Yes. Now move that cute booty out of my office and go to sleep.”
I laughed with him as I opened the door. Looking back, Moose was already back into his computer world. I closed the door behind me and headed up the stairs to the second door.
