“My kids, Pres..”
He patted me on the back as he hung up. “Goose and Mav are on it. Wrench was already at Mav’s, so we got three brothers on them. Send Rooster to help Bambi and Thor to help Mama.”
I nodded and turned to the young brothers. “Thor, you get to Mama Crawford’s house and help her. Don’t fucking take your eyes off my kids. Clear?”
He nodded. “My sister is there too.”
I turned to Rooster. “You’re on Bambi. Help Goose get those girls here.”
Blade came over and tapped Thor on the shoulder. “I’ll help you, man.”
They all walked out with me as I hopped on my bike and headed toward the hospital. I drove through town and got to the medical center in record time.
Parking right up front, I ran into the building to find Lily and the prospect. As I rounded the corner, I saw Lily sitting in the waiting room.
“Princess…”
She jumped up from the chair and ran into my arms.
“Moose... he’s gonna be okay. She knocked him out, but that’s it. Beckett is gonna be fine.”
“Thank fucking god…”
My phone went off, and I slipped it out of my pocket. The alarms at my house were setting it off. Opening it up, I saw two people walking around.
“Fuck!”
Lily looked down and frowned. “I know that woman. She works for Child and Family Services. What are they doing at your house?”
I shook my head. “Tessa. That fucking-”
Lily placed her hand on my chest. “Listen to me. It’s okay. They’re gonna realize you aren’t home and call. Just say hello and then let me do the rest. Okay?”
We sat and waited for almost half an hour before they finally called. Taking a deep breath, I swiped and put it on speaker.
“Hello?”
“Hello. Is this Jacob Lavoie?”
I looked at Lily, then answered. “This is.”
“Hello Mister Lavoie. This is Nancy Albert from Child and Family Services. We received an anonymous report and would like to ask you some questions. Do you have some time to talk?”
“I’m available today.”
“Great! We’ll be stopping by the children’s school-”
Lily grabbed the phone. “Hello, Nancy. This is Attorney Banks and I represent Mister Lavoie. You will not be speaking to the children without myself or their father present.”
“Attorney Banks... we simply want to see the children and-”
“And you will when they get home today. They have the day off from school and are currently with a family member. Do you think it would be wise to show up announced to an elderly woman's home and rip two children away from her?”
I smiled at Lily as she stood there with her hands on her hips.
“Well no, ma’am.”
“Very well. Why don’t you swing back around four so the kids are home and settled.”
