“Oh, baby. I would never leave you. I love you more than anything, Nova.”
I smiled as I watched both my kids tell Lily how much they loved her. Lily looked up at me and smiled.
“I have an idea. Do you trust me?”
I nodded, “Of course.”
“Good. Let’s make lunch and then I need to make some calls.”
Chapter Fifteen
Lily
Itwasthenextmorning and I was sitting in my office with a cup of coffee when the bell rang above the door.
I looked up to see my ex, Dexter, walking through the door. I knew what he was here for and couldn’t wait for him to pull one over on me.
“Can I help you, Dexter?”
He stood over my desk with a slimy smile.
“You can’t ethically represent him if you have his cock down your throat, Lily.”
“Hm. You’re gonna have to do better than that to get a rise out of me. I mean, those gang roots run deep, huh?”
Dexter slammed his hands on my desk, “Don’t play these fucking games with me, Lily.”
I shrugged. “I’m not playing any games. Moose is no longer my client, so this is a moot point. You can leave now since we have no business together.”
“This is absurd!”
“What you did was absurd, Dexter. You violated my privacy by taking intimate pictures of Moose and I. You can leave my office now.”
Dexter screamed. “No! I’m not leaving, Lily! I want you back! Please, just come back to California with me…”
Shaking my head, I stood up. “No. I’m happy here. Everybody is kind and caring. They give you the shirt off their backs without even knowing you. They accept me for who I am; past and present, unlike you and your family. I’m here for good. Now please leave my office.”
Dexter stormed up to me. “No!”
I smiled as Daisy came out from my backroom. “I think she asked you to leave, sir.”
He turned and looked at Daisy and me, sneering.
“So you have a cop on your payroll? Just like the fucking trash you are.”
Daisy laughed as she placed her hand on her gun. “Nobody pays me. I was here for a case and just heard you screaming after Miss Banks asked you to leave. Now, unless you want me to arrest you, I would suggest you leave.”
She moved toward him as they walked toward the door. Dexter turned around and glared at me.
“This isn’t over, Lily. I don’t care how I have to take you down!”
Daisy grabbed his arm and pushed him out of my office as Moose walked past them. He came over to me and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“What was that all about, princess?”
“Dexter, my ex. Came in here to convince me to move back to California and some empty threats.”
Moose just shook his head. “Are you okay?”
