Watch.
I’ll make them believers too.
“Look, I’m not looking to steal your thunder, fellas. We can raise hell together but before we tag some toes and put those cunts on ice for good, we get the Riders to give up the cartel.”
Without replying, Arrow and Mac look at one another and I take the opportunity to turn to Wolf.
“As the president, you’re going to have to reach out to Scout and tell him there’s been a change in plans. You might also want to tell him you’re the one calling the shots around here.”
Lifting an eyebrow, he cocks his head.
“Am I?”
Ignoring him, I slice my eyes between Mac and Arrow.
“You said the ledgers are in a safety deposit box. Find out what branch they’re at and Riggs will take whoever has authorization to the bank to retrieve them,” I say, pointing a finger to Riggs. “I want you to go over those books. Leave no page unturned, you hear me? Any mention of the Sinaloa cartel you highlight that shit and confirm it’s all legit.”
“They’ll be at least two boxes, but don’t worry, I have the authorization, keys, numbers and the address to the bank,” Mac supplies.
Riggs reaches behind his back and cups his neck as he looks between me and Wolf. I know I’m overstepping, that I’m putting every man with a patch in a rough spot, including the man I handed the gavel to, but if Javier is out for blood, we don’t got time to sit around with our thumbs up our asses.
Subtly, Wolf gives a curt nod to Riggs and I turn to him.
“Thank you,” I say. If the roles were reversed, I don’t think I’d be as agreeable. I’d let my pride interfere and in hindsight, that’s what makes Wolf a better leader than me.
“I’ll call Scout,” he replies.
Leaning forward, he reaches into his kutte and pulls out his phone as he pierces me with a hard look. “I sure as fuck hope you know what you’re doing, Parrish.”
So do I.
“We got this, brother,” I tell him. “One way or another, we got this.”
Pushing back my chair, I rise to my full height and glance around the table.
“One of you fill Pipe in on what went down at the café, so they know what they’re walking in on. I have to get dressed and head over to Lacey’s to take Danny to school. On my way back, I’ll call Schwartz and tell him to meet us at Kates.”
Just as I’m about to make my way towards the stairs, Reina’s face flashes before me. My place is at her side, helping her remember our life together but after last night, I’m not sure I can bring myself to visit. At least not yet. I’m not ready to hear her tell me she regrets us or that we were a mistake.
My phone rings from the living room and Nico is quick to retrieve it.
“It’s Lacey,” he says, lifting his eyes from the screen as he hands it to me. Taking it from him, I swipe my thumb across the screen and raise the phone to my ear. The voices around me fade as her cries fill my ears.
“Lacey?”
She starts to ramble on in between sobs but I can’t make out a word.
“Jesus fuck, calm down! I can’t understand a word you’re saying.”
Nico puts his fingers in between his lips and whistles, drawing the attention of all the men in the dining room. I raise my hand to silence them and put the phone on speaker.
“Someone broke into my house,” she sobs.
Pipe and Wolf jump from their seats and make their way towards me as I grab onto the back of the couch.
“Where’s Danny?”
“He’s right here. We’re fine,” she continues in between hiccups. “They must’ve in while we were sleeping.”
