Chapter Thirty-five

Jack Parrish

We didn’t stop to think, we just moved.

Pipe was out the door before I could get my shirt on, he was rounding up the rest of the club and all the women and children. Arrow got on the horn with Scout and briefed him on the shit storm they walked in on. We left Bas at the house with him and Tiny while Riggs took Bash and Mac to the bank to retrieve the two books. Once they got them, the plan was for Bash and Riggs to go over them and see if they could find any intel on the Riders and the Sinaloa Cartel. Everyone knew what they had to do and where they had to go.

It was Wolf, and I that had no fucking idea what we were walking into.

With Nico following us in a cage, we headed over the Verrazano to the seventh layer of Hell. We pulled into the driveway of Blackie and Lacey’s house and immediately scoped the perimeter. There was no sign of forced entry which led me to believe these motherfuckers entered my daughter’s house without breaking a sweat and that was alarming as fuck. Being a man who has invaded his fair share of homes, I know how a scenario like this is supposed to play out and a little blood on the walls ain’t it. Especially if it’s not Lacey and Danny’s blood.

Karma fucks me and the sins of my past flash before my eyes. I try to shake it off, to bleach them from my mind but nothing works. All the innocent women I’ve tied up and the kids I’ve gagged with duct tape, their faces all haunt me as I make my way to the front door.

“What’s the plan?” Nico asks as he climbs the steps behind us.

“The plan is for you to get Lacey and Danny the fuck out of here,” Wolf mutters, shoving his gun into the front waistband of his jeans.

“And then what? Am I taking him to school?”

“Fuck the kid going to school today, you take them straight to Kates,” Wolf growls as I kick open the front door.

“Jeez, I was just asking,” Nico replies.

Before we enter the house, I hold out my arm and stop the dynamic father/son duo from taking another step.

“Nico go down and get Lacey and Danny,” I order, turning to Wolf. “I’ll take the first floor, you take the second.”

He nods, and I drop my hand before I walk into the house. Nico brushes past me and heads for the basement as Wolf and I pause and take in the mess. Lacey wasn’t over exaggerating about the blood. It’s fucking everywhere. Wolf starts for the stairs as I make a sharp right and head into the living room.

“Jesus fuck,” he growls. “Parrish, get over here.”

Spinning around, I find him with one foot on the bottom step and his eyes pinned to the top of the landing. I quickly make my way towards him and lift my head. Written on the wall in blood at the top of the stairs it reads, ‘Muerte a todos los caballeros satans’.

“I can make out two of those fucking words,” he hisses.

“Death to all the Satan’s Knights,” I translate through clenched teeth.

“Fuck,” he grunts, swiping his hand over his face. “I hate to say it but I’m not sure what we’re up against, man. The fact they didn’t hurt Lacey and Danny means they got something planned. Something big.”

“You think I don’t fucking know that?” I retort, peeling my eyes away from the cryptic message. “We just gotta strike first.”

“We’re not even sure Javier put the order out on Milly. It could’ve been someone from Sergio’s hit squad avenging his death. What if we’re playing this wrong?”

“We don’t got any other leads and pairing that with the little info we got from the accident points all roads to Javier,” I argue.

“Okay, so we do this. We use the Charon boys to get the Ice Riders to give up Javier’s location. Then what? We take out him and his crew and don’t expect any retaliation?”

“Man, I can’t fucking predict the future, but I can guarantee you if we wait for them to hit first, we ain’t going to have to worry about shit because we’ll all be dead.”

He doesn’t have a chance to argue the fact because Danny calls for me and in a flash my boy is in my arms begging me not to leave him.

“It’s okay, bud, Daddy’s got you,” I tell him, glancing over his head to look at his sister. Her face is streak with mascara and her eyes are bloodshot. None of this can be good for her mental health or the baby she’s carrying.

“We’re out of here,” I tell her. “Go upstairs with Wolf and pack some clothes for yourself and Danny. While you’re up there, pack me something for Reina too.”

“Reina?” Wolf questions. “We’re springing her out of the hospital?”

“I’m not leaving her in the hospital where anyone can get to her,” I tell him.
