“On behalf of myself and my club, we want to thank you and Wolf, here, for opening your home and your brotherhood to us.”
Taking the shot glass, I look at Wolf.
“Well, I think Wolf will agree with me when I say, it was a pleasure to work together,” I reply, slicing my eyes back to him. I raise my glass. “We make one fuck of a team.”
“Agreed,” Wolf says.
“To the Charons and the Knights,” Scout salutes. We all raise our glasses and down the shots. Scout sets his empty glass on the bar and turns to me.
“I’m on the six-thirty flight back home,” he reveals. “However, I could only snag one ticket so if you don’t mind, Mac, Arrow, Tiny and Bash are going to crash here another night and head out tomorrow morning.
“That’s fine,” Wolf says. “I’ll have Nico on airport duty,” Wolf replies.
“Appreciate it,” he says, glancing at Wolf. Bringing his attention back to me, he places a hand on my shoulder. “Things won’t be the same without you, but I respect what you’re doing.”
“Thank you,” I reply.
“I’ll still see you on the B.A.C.A. runs, yeah?”
“Absolutely.”
He turns to Wolf.
“I look forward to working together in the future and if there is ever a time in which I can return the favor, don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Oh, would you all stop,” Riggs interjects. “You people are going back to Texas, not fucking Budapest and let’s not pretend like my man, Moses won’t be back often.”
“Who the fuck is Moses?” I ask, glancing around the group of men huddled around me.
“This jerk has been calling me Moses since you left me holding the ledgers,” Bash mumbles to Scout.
It’s the first time I’ve heard the kid speak.
“Man’s got a thing for New York pussy,” Riggs reveals, nudging Bash with his elbow. “Tell them, I’m right.”
“You’re an idiot,” Bash hisses.
“Maybe so. I’ve been called worse. That doesn’t change the fact that you’ve been eye-fucking the shit out of my bartender since we got back from the bank yesterday.”
“Which bartender?” I ask, glancing over my shoulder at the girl filling Schwartz’s glass.
“Lydia,” Riggs replies.
“Don’t listen to him,” Bash growls. “He’s crazy.”
Scout barks out a laugh and I shake my head.
“Looks like you got some competition,” I tell the prospect. “My money is on you though,” I add, giving him a pat on the back. “I’m going to leave you guys to it. Gotta check on my daughter.”
With a handshake and another round of goodbyes, I step away from the Charon men and my brothers. I make my way through the bar, pausing to take in the smile on Danny’s face as he plays with Layla’s daughter.
The two of them are thick as thieves.
Imagine that shit.
A grin ticks my lips.
Maybe God has a few more blessings up his sleeve.
