I wait for Maria to retreat inside the house before I continue.
“I don’t expect you to start a war on my behalf,” I say. “You and I, we run things differently. It don’t mean my way is better than yours, it just means you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I can’t sit back and do nothing,” I tell him honestly. My voice becomes hoarse as I continue. “If something happens to Reina, if she don’t make it through this, there’s going to blood, Wolf, and it’s gonna fill these streets until whoever is responsible pays.”
“Let’s be honest, Parrish, there’s gonna blood no matter what.”
When the man’s right, he’s right.
“I just hope it’s not ours,” he adds.
So do I.
Unfortunately, I don’t make promises I can’t keep.
