Page 50 of Chaos & Corruption

“Please,” I beg. “Look, I’m not stupid enough to think I can take out the whole society, but if I can stop whoever hurt you and Victoria, from hurting one more innocent girl—"

“Jennings,” she blurts, bringing her gaze back to me. “Matthew Jennings raped me.”

Of course he did.

Now, it all makes fucking sense.

Him hitting on Victoria—getting transferred into one of her classes.

Meeting with Webber.

Jesus Christ the list is endless.

I swipe a hand roughly over my face as I try to piece everything together. Why would Webber watch Jennings rape Mila? Why would he spread those rumors about her? Was Jennings the one who sent Webber the text that read ‘it’s done’—and if he did, does that mean Webber knew what he planned on doing to Victoria?

“What are you going to do?” Mila questions, pulling me away from my thoughts.

I don’t really have an answer for her since I didn’t really think it through. The first order of business should be going back to Stonewall. I’ll hunt Jennings down, make him answer my questions. Then I’ll fucking kill him.

Meeting Mila’s curious eyes, I hold out my hand.

“Give me your keys.”

Her brows pinch together.

“What?”

“I’m assuming you drove here, right? That you didn’t fucking fly. I need a car.”

Her eyes widen.

“And you think I’m just going to give you mine?”

I honestly don’t know how Victoria calls this girl her best friend. They’re like oil and water.

“Look, Mila, I get this is urgent for you, but I’ve got about ten seconds before Victoria’s father comes out here and if he gets to me—”

“I know the Bianci’s for a long time. You don’t have to finish that sentence,” she says, slapping her keys into the palm of my hand. “But I’m coming with you.”

On second thought, I think I rather take my chances with Mr. Bianci. I can’t be in a car with Mila for hours. I’ll jump the fuck out.

“The fuck you are.”

She snatches her keys out from the palm of my hand.

“Then I guess you’re calling an Uber. It’s going to be hella expensive.”

“Why do you suddenly give a shit?”

“Let’s get something straight Reggiano, you don’t know me. All you know are the lies your friend spat. I didn’t ask for any of this and until you walk a mile in my shoes, you don’t have the right to judge me.”

She has me there.

Besides, Victoria would hate that I was giving her friend a hard time.

Her gaze settles on something behind me, and she mutters a curse.

“We need to go. Now.”
