“Are you wearing anything underneath it?”

I don’t know if it’s the alcohol or if it’s all the pent-up sexual tension between us, but I’m feeling bold. I turn into him, bracing my hand on his chest as I lift my chin and meet his hooded gaze. Is it absolutely horrible that I want to take Carmela up on her offer? I’ve never had sex in a car, and I’ve heard it’s not very comfortable, but neither is lying in a permanent state of sexual frustration.

“Not a thing.”

His teeth sink into his bottom lip as fingers tighten around my hip, pinching the extra skin that gives way beneath the soft fabric of my dress. The first time he did that we had just made our way into the bedroom of the apartment above Kate’s. Too self-conscious, I immediately swatted his hands away. They call them love handles, but is there really anything lovely about them? I’m here to tell you there is and a real man will teach that to you. He’ll make you feel comfortable in your own skin.

Desired and sexy.

The parts you hate will become the parts you love.

Enzo tugs me closer to him until our bodies are flush against each other and his thick erection is pressing against my belly.

“You’re killing me, babe. Fucking killing me.”

My hand trails down his shirt, pausing at the spot of dried blood that stains it. A reminder that we’re just kidding ourselves. All these stolen touches are just that. We’re on borrowed time and there is no endgame in sight until all of this is behind us.

I pull away from him, tucking my hair behind my ears.

“We shouldn’t keep your dad waiting.”

He studies me with a perplexed expression, then gives me a curt nod before motioning to the room on the left.

“After you.”

I step around him, careful not to touch him. I don’t think either of us can handle it at this point. When I enter the room I instantly spot Wolf by the window, his back facing me. My gaze falls to the Satan’s Knights insignia carefully embroidered onto his leather vest. I’ve seen him wear it a couple of times during the visits to Frankie’s House, but it’s never intimidated me. I suppose that’s because he was just Mr. Scotto then, Enzo’s dad, and the man in charge of a great non-profit. Now, that I’ve seen the darker side of him, I can’t unsee it.

He slowly turns around, his eyes bouncing between me and Enzo as he crosses his arms against his chest.

“Jesus Christ,” he hisses. “You can wipe the deer in headlights expression off your face, darlin’, I’m not going to hurt you.”

My shoulders relax and I offer him a tightlipped smile—it’s the best I can muster under the circumstances.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Scotto—er, Wolf.”

He lets out a heavy sigh and drops his arms to his sides, hooking his thumbs inside the front pockets of his jeans.

“How about you call me Al from now on?”

“Sure, if that’s what you prefer.”

He rocks back on his heels, then lifts a hand to his beard, his eyes darting around the room, avoiding mine.

“My son tells me I owe you an apology,” he mutters miserably.

I guess apologies aren’t his thing—that’s fine. I don’t need or want one. All I want is for Wolf to understand that I had nothing to do with Brent’s actions, nor was I responsible for what happened to Enzo.

“I shouldn’t have come to your house and spoken to you the way that I did. That’s not how I operate. I don’t threaten women and I don’t use their weaknesses against them. This thing with your ex-husband caught me off guard and as you witnessed, my brother Jack likes to take things into his own hands. I was racing against him, hoping to handle the situation before he could.”

“I understand, and I accept your apology. But just to be clear, I had no idea what Brent was doing. I didn’t donate the money with any ulterior motive in mind and what happened between me and your son…”

Enzo clears his throat behind me. Glancing over my shoulder, our eyes lock. He scratches his jaw and shakes his head.

“You don’t have to get into that with him. It’s none of his business.”

Wolf scoffs, bringing my attention back to him.

“I do have some questions, none of which have anything to do with Enzo.”
