“Get in the elevator.” He nods to the side when the door opens and in silence we all step in. When the door shuts, I grab my phone.
Aren’t you going to call me a good girl for getting in without a fuss?
I steal a glance at Jackson. He pulls out his phone and I don’t miss the way his jaw ticks. Peeking over at Sire, he isn’t paying us an ounce of attention.
Will I get punished if I make her curse again?
If you want me to punish you there’s other ways you can accomplish that.
Noted.
He shakes his head at me, but I can see him biting back a smile.
Jackson
We’re anhourinto trickor treating and I still can’t get used to Lisette’s little dress. Every single time I look over at her, it’s as if I’m seeing her for the first time. Her words from before are like a song stuck in my head and I can barely string together a thought that doesn’t consist of her wearing that in my room. Her brother following after us is only adding shame to every thought I have of her.
“Oh, isn’t this so cute?” An elderly woman smiles at my firefighter costume before she focuses on Isabelle’s flame dress.
“I’m perfect, right?” Belle spins for her and I shake my head at her huge personality.
“You are,” the woman agrees. “Your costume deserves a double scoop of candy.” She digs into her bucket before giving Isabelle more candy than needed.
We bid her goodbye and when I turn, I expect to find Lisette behind us, but she isn’t. My eyes scan the front yard and at the other house, I spot her short orange dress standing in front of a guy wearing a sheet that barely covers him.
He looks around Lisette’s age, and when she laughs at something he says, I roll my eyes at the pair. I catch him shamelessly gaping at her boobs and swallow my annoyance. I know I sound like a hypocrite since I’ve been stealing glances at her all night, but this kid is… he’s not me.
“I feel like we’re walking too slow,” Belle complains before grabbing her uncle’s hand. “Chop chop.” She takes off marching and Vidia follows close behind them with a laugh.
“I need to grab something from the car. I’ll catch up with you guys,” I call out and they nod in return before they turn the corner. Spinning on my heels, I walk over to Lisette.
“Okay, I need a hint.” She laughs as she gives his body a once over. “Sexy mummy?” She tilts her head to the side as she guesses his costume.
He smirks down at her. “You think I’m sexy?”
I roll my eyes at how pathetic he sounds.
“I think sexy is what you were going for,” she teases and he holds his heart as if she wounded him.
Before either of them can say anything else, I step beside Lisette. “What did Daddy say about talking to strangers, sweetie?”
The guy in front of us takes a step back, his eyes wide as he examines Lisette again.
Lisette lets out a scoff as she turns to him. “I’m a grown woman. That sounded really bad, but he isnotmy dad.”
He visibly relaxes as I smile down at her.
“No, but shedoescall me Daddy.”
Her jaw drops now, and when I face forward, he takes off without a word.
Beside me, she slaps my forearm. “That was so unnecessary.”
“Did I lie?”
“I thought I was the one wearing the sin of envy costume.”
I let out a scoff. “You thought that was jealousy?”
