“Oh no?” I asked. “Watch me.”
She held my gaze for only a moment, before trying to walk past me. I blocked her without even trying, and she cursed wildly.
“Get out of my fucking way.”
“I will not,” I said with a smile. “You’re not leaving here tonight. But I promise you this, before you leave this house, three things are going to happen.”
Abby raised her eyebrows without a word.
“Firstly, I’m going to take your ex-boyfriend out once and for all. Secondly, I’m going to make sure you can defend yourself so that you never have to rely on anyone else in the future. And thirdly, you’re going to find yourself flat on my bed, screaming my name while I fuck the life out of you.”
She seemed to process what I was saying, and the moment the last words hit, her expression turned downright livid. So livid in fact, that it actually turned me on.
“Over my dead body,” she hissed.
“Wanna bet?” I asked.
Then before she could utter another word, I had pushed her against the wall and slammed my lips down on hers. I felt her hands claw at my chest, and her body shake violently in resistance, but three seconds after my tongue met hers, I felt her kiss me back.
I could feel the heat and the urgency of that kiss radiate through my whole body, and I knew that she could feel it too. That was evident in the way her hands curled around my neck and the way her mouth moved in sync with mine.
“What the fuck is this?”
Devon’s voice broke the intangible magic between us, and with a small gasp, Abby pushed back and extricated herself from my arms. Her lips were raw, she was panting slightly, and she refused to meet anyone’s eyes.
“I brought my sister here because I thought she’d be safe,” Devon said to me, as though I had betrayed him in some way.
I met his gaze unapologetically. “Your sister’s an adult, and so am I. This isn’t fucking high school… not that I would know much about what that’s like.”
“Stay away from her,” Devon said.
I wondered if he was actually that protective of Abby or if he was just playing the part he thought he was supposed to play. I took a step towards him. “Or what?”
I saw Devon’s anger falter and he looked down.
“I don’t need to remind you of who I am… do I?” I asked quietly.
“No,” Devon replied softly.
“Excellent,” I nodded. “You can go now.”
Left with no choice, Devon backed out of the room, and I turned back to Abby. “That was a mistake,” she said. “It won’t happen again.”
I smiled, feeling both confident and determined. “I wouldn’t bet on it,” I said, before walking out of her room. “Goodnight, Abby.”
