“Yay!”
“First, you have to put away your toys though,” I said firmly.
“Aww…”
“Listen to your mother,” Ryder said, and as usual, he didn’t have to ask twice. Alice scurried off to do as Ryder had told her, and we were left alone once more.
“I’m going to be hard-pressed to keep her away from motorbikes,” I sighed.
“Don’t worry; I’ll teach her how to ride one safely.”
“Not before she’s sixteen though, please,” I said.
“Ah… that might be difficult,” Ryder said. “She’s surrounded by them here.”
I sighed. “I know… I may be fighting a losing battle there.”
Ryder reached out and placed his hand on mine. “You know what might be a nice thing to do?”
“What?” I asked.
“Get married.”
I hadn’t been expecting that, and I looked at him in shock. “What?”
Ryder smiled. “Alice has already started asking questions; we’re going to have another baby… we’re committed to one another… it might be a nice thing to do.”
“Get married?”
“Yes.”
“But… I thought that wasn’t something you were interested in?”
“People can change their minds, right?”
I smiled. “They can… I just never expected you to.”
“It might be nice to do for the kids,” Ryder said. “It might mean something to us too.”
I smiled. “Five years, a house and two kids later, you’re finally asking me to marry you,” I said, shaking my head at him.
“Is it too late?”
“For you?” I replied. “Never.”
