“What’s your plan?” I asked, hoping it was a good one.

“I think we should bite the bullet and agree to do an interview.”

I blanched at the very thought of it. “No. No way. Absolutely not. Why would I encourage that? I want them to butt out of our lives, not get even more involved!”

“I know. It seems counterintuitive. But do you remember what I said the other night, when I helped you clean your house?” Carter cuddled me to his chest and rubbed his lips on my cheek. “I talked about how you could use this as publicity. It was a joke, but I think we really can use it to our advantage.”

“How?”

“Let’s give them what they want. Let’s use it to our advantage. We’ll set up the interview and show up dressed in our Halloween costumes, as the prince and princess they want us to be. We can casually slip in a mention of how you’re going to turn your house into a sewing shop and get publicity for you.” His voice gathered strength and conviction as he spoke. “We’ll turn the public eye fromusto what we’redoing.”

Suddenly, it all made so much sense. I lifted my head and looked up at him, and he looked down at me with a smile, like he already knew what I was going to say.

“That’s what you already do, isn’t it?” I whispered.

“Damn right.” His voice was rough, almost gravelly, rumbling in his chest. “If I’m going to be watched, I’d rather people watch my actions. I’d rather they discuss what I do for the world than talking about my outfits and scandals.”

I sat up and put my hand on his chest, an idea popping into my mind. “Remember how I was going to maybe donate my stuff to a children’s hospital?”

He clasped my hand and kissed the back of it, nodding.

“I’ll talk about that. It’ll show what I can do, but it’ll also give publicity to the hospital and encourage people to do the same.”

Carter smiled and sat up with me. “That’s a genius idea, if it’s what you want to do.”

“Of course, it is.” I smiled back at him, my heart skipping beats in my chest. “I struggled before with trying to figure out what to do, if I wanted to donate or keep everything for my shop. Reality versus my dreams. Now I can have both. I would love for kids in need to have what I make, and then I can make more for the shop! And I can continue to donate!”

Carter leaned over and kissed me. “You are amazing, Megyn.”

I kissed him back and fluttered my eyelashes. “Do I get a reward for going along with your scheme?”

“Sure!” he laughed. “Have anything in particular in mind? Ice cream with waffles for breakfast?”

“As good as that sounds, I had something a little different in mind.” I moved the covers out of the way and took hold of Carter’s manhood again, wrapping my hand around his shaft.

His eyes went wide and then narrowed. “Tenacious, aren’t you?”

I slid my hand up and down his stiffening shaft and smiled shyly. “I’m learning from you.”

He laughed and rolled us over, crouching over me. His lips found mine and we kissed, and then made excellent use of our bed until it was time for breakfast.

CHAPTER31

CARTER

“Inever thought I’d see the day,” Brian remarked, looking me up and down.

I gave myself a once-over. I wore the same suit I usually did. “Is it the tie?” I joked, fingering the leaf-patterned wool. “I thought it was festive.”

“While it is an ugly tie, I’m used to you making questionable fashion choices. No,” he shook his head, “this time I’m referring to your willingness to do an interview.”

I tugged on my tie to get it to lie straight again and cleared my throat, feeling suddenly self-conscious. “Yes, well, I’m doing it for Megyn.”

“The power of love,” Brian sighed, and I almost believed that he wasn’t being dramatic.

“Did you do the research I asked for?” I questioned.

Brian handed me a piece of paper with a phone number written on it. “This is the most reputable agency I could find. And you didn’t comment on what I said.”
