"I'd like that." Carsyn placed her hands in her lap and picked at her fingernails. "How did we end up together?"
"You and your stepfather would come to the gym I used to go to all the time. Every time you came into the gym, I would watch you work out and train with Warren. One day, you got frustrated with something he tried to show you, so I came over and offered my assistance. We exchanged numbers, and we talked on the phone later that night. After that, I would be at the gym every time you were there, and I would help whenever you needed it. A month later, we officially started dating, and the rest is history."
Carsyn looked at me the whole time I talked, and when I was done, her face lit up. Her eyes told me she still hadn't remembered any of it, but I was glad that she didn't confirm it. She asked me more questions about our house and our life, and I answered each one of them. It was hard because I could feel the disconnect between us, and I didn't like it. Normally, a kid-free day would consist of us eating, laughing, and having sex anywhere in the house. That was when Carsyn wasn't training. Now, it felt like I was with a totally different person. I missed my wife already.
Carsyn yawned, so before I got too deep in my head, I stood. "Let me show you where the bedroom is so you can get some rest." I stuck my hand out, and she placed her hand in mine.
I still felt the same spark I always felt whenever we touched.
"Okay." She yawned again.
I led her upstairs and showed her to our bedroom. She walked in and looked around the same way she did when we first came into the house.
"Do you want to wear a nightgown or one of your pajama sets?" Usually, Carsyn didn't sleep in anything, but I wasn't sure where her head was.
She looked down at her lap. "Um, I guess a nightgown."
"I got you." I went into her drawer and pulled one of her nightgowns out for her. "Do you mind if I help you?"
She blushed. "No, I don't mind."
I stood in front of her and helped her out of her shirt and bra before I slid the nightgown over her head. Our eyes were on each other the whole time. "Stand up for me," I instructed.
She hadn't had any dizziness that I was aware of, but I still helped her stand.
Once she was up, I pulled her pants and panties down. I looked up at her, and she was already looking at me. "Hold on to my shoulders so you can step out of your pants."
Carsyn did as I said, and once her stuff was off, she climbed into bed. Once she was comfortable, I pulled the covers up over her.
"I'll be downstairs if you need me. I have to get your stuff out of the car and fix dinner. Don't hesitate to call me for anything. Okay, Care Bear?"
"I feel like you called me that before."
My heart soared when she said that. It was simple, but it was progress.
"From the moment I met you."
Her cheeks rose when she smiled. We stared at each other for a few seconds until she yawned again.
"Get some rest."
I pulled the covers up to her chin, kissed her forehead, and left the room.
After I got her stuff from the car, I went into the kitchen and prepped what I needed to make dinner. I wasn't sure what happened, but as I chopped some peppers, I had an emotional breakdown. I had to step away from the counter and sit down. My shoulders shook as the tears that fell from my eyes couldn't be contained. I tried to keep my crying as quiet as possible because I didn't want to alert Carsyn. She had a small memory, but that wasn't enough to feel secure in our new situation. My biggest fear was that she wouldn't get her memories back and she would leave me. I would probably leave this earth if I couldn't have my wife.
I got myself together because I needed to be strong for my family. I vowed I would do everything in my power to get my wife back. Nothing in this world could keep me from being with Carsyn. That woman was my entire existence, and I would go to war with God himself if that was the only way I could keep her here with me. If I needed to adjust some things to make her comfortable, I would.
I wokeup slightly confused about where I was and how I had gotten there. It took a few minutes to remember that I was in the home I shared with Noah and our daughter. The sun beamed through the window, so I knew it was a different day, but I had no idea what time it was. I was alone in the room, but I smelled food cooking and assumed Noah was fixing something.
Noah woke me up for dinner the night before, but I told him I wasn't hungry. He kissed me on the forehead and left me alone. I wasn't sure if he slept in the room with me because his side of the bed was cold. I couldn't imagine how he felt being around me, and me not remembering anything about him.
I looked toward the table near the bed and spotted a picture of Noah and me at what I imagined was our wedding day. Ipicked up the picture and stared at it. Noah and I looked so happy, and I couldn't get over the fact that we were married. I ran my fingers over Noah's handsome face. I could see the love he had for me in the way he smiled and looked at me. I wondered if he still felt the same way now.
My bladder screamed at me, so I placed the picture back on the table and swung my legs to the side of the bed. A pair of slippers was near the bed, so I slid my feet into them and stood. The minute I stood up, I got a little dizzy, so I braced myself, but it subsided after a few seconds. Once I got my bearings, I gingerly made my way to the adjoined bathroom.
I turned on the light, but it was a little too bright for me, so I turned it back off. I found it odd that there was a nightlight in here, but it came in handy. I used the bathroom and washed my hands. A washcloth and a toothbrush were on the counter, so I used those to wash my face and brush my teeth before leaving the bathroom.
"Oh, let me help you," Noah offered as I exited the bathroom.
