“How many times have you received one?”?

“Twice. The first one was about five days ago, and there was another one this morning.”

“Someone knows you found your mate,” I said.?

Mikel stilled immediately. His eyes snapped up to mine. I could see the millions of questions lingering in his eyes.?

He sighed heavily. “You know Remiah?”?

“Yes. I’ve met her, and she is perfect for you,” I said softly. He smiled fondly before his face fell again.?

“Are you upset?” he asked, but I didn’t understand what he meant. “The heavens gave me a mate, and you don’t have one.”?

I swallowed hard.?

“Maybe they will give me a new one.”?

He shook his head no. “No, they won’t. I asked around after what happened. Everyone and everything said the same thing. We only get one mate, no matter what. I even asked Brim.”

I stood still at his confession. What would he say if I told him that I had a mate again? He would know that I did somethingterrible. He would know I broke god laws for Haden. As the God of Judgement, he would have to punish me. But what would it be? Would he take Haden from me?

I wouldn’t risk it.

“Well then, maybe I will fall in love again.”?

Mikel frowned as tears filled his eyes.?

“I did not want to upset you; that is why I didn’t tell you before. And I didn’t want my happiness with Remiah to hurt you.”

“It’s alright, Mikel, I am happy for you.” I walked over and hugged him. At some point I would have to come clean to Mikel about what I had done because I would be claiming Haden this time. But I would keep my secrets until I knew we were safe. Mikel squeezed me tightly. “Now, we need to figure out who the fuck is sending those lilies to you.”?

Silently, I stared at Haden from next to his bed. He was dreaming again, but it was clear he was distraught. What did he dream of that made him scared enough that he called to me in his sleep? I hadn’t heard from him for two days, since I snapped his father’s bones. I thought maybe he realized he didn’t like me or that I had scared him off. ?

“Storm. It’s alright. You need to let me go,” he pleaded as his limbs jerked and twitched under his thin blanket. My blood went cold at his words, and flashes of the night he died hit me all at once. I squeezed my eyes tightly and tried to get them to go away. Please, I did not want to think about that.

I rubbed my eyes roughly. Why did he seem to remember things from his past life? That was impossible. Haden’s thrashing around drew my attention away from the flashbacks.

“Haden,” I whispered. He immediately stopped his pleading and stilled. His stormy eyes opened and looked at me in a sleep-filled haze, but they closed immediately. Thank the heavens. I exhaled the breath I was holding. I did not need to explain tohim why I was watching him sleep. I turned and looked around his bedroom, realizing how different it was from his last.?

There was a small sheet of paper sticking out from under a pair of trousers on the floor. Slowly, I went over to it and pulled it out. My heart beat rapidly as I stared at a drawing of me. I was smiling as I stood in the woods. He still likes to draw.?I traced the lines of the picture before putting it back. When I turned, Haden was sitting up in bed watching me.?

“Fuck, sorry,” I said in a panic.?

“This is a pleasant surprise,” he whispered. My gaze drifted down his bare chest before looking back at his eyes. “What did you think of the picture?”?

“You have a knack for drawing.” I smiled.?

“I didn’t know that I could draw until I drew that picture,” he confessed as I stepped closer. “Isn’t that odd? I had never tried to draw someone before, but when I saw you, my first thought was how your beauty should be admired like a piece of art.”?

I stopped moving as his words soaked into me. Fuck, why was he not being so timid this time? When I stepped closer, he turned to watch me, his face moving into the moonlight. I smiled when I saw his dark, black eyes staring at me.?

“Void.”?

He smiled softly and nodded. “It happens when I have nightmares. Why are you here?”?

“You called for me.” I stepped closer so I could sit at the foot of his bed.?
