“Not really.” I’d assumed he found me unworthy of his flirting or his notice.
He clutched his hands over his heart like I’d shot him. “You thought I was always like that?”
I shrugged.
“Mimi, Mimi.” Shaking his head, he sauntered to me, slung one arm around my shoulders, and after a brief hesitation, brushed a kiss to my temple. “You are my kryptonite. Only you.”
Larissa flashed us an arch smile. “I guess it’s a classic case of opposites-attract.”
I looked up into Mateo’s face. We were opposites, all right. He was tall and gorgeous. I was short and normal-looking. I’d assumed he thought I was a geek, beneath his notice, but maybe I’d been wrong about that.
And now he’d saved my bacon by pretending to be my boyfriend and even added on an over-the-top story that made Larissa swoon. I was going to owe him—massively—when all this was over.
