“When you were in the jewelry shop,” I murmured fingering my treasure coin necklace.

“Huh.” He sounded surprised.

“Purple because it’s your favorite color,” I said to Roan, and then I turned back to Kyle, and murmured, “and blue because it’s mine.”

“You’re incredible, you know that?” Kyle asked, and I smiled gently.

“I do now.” I pulled him to me gently by his tie for another kiss.

Roan made a satisfied noise and carried on with whatever he was cooking.

It turned out to be crepes, a side of bacon from the oven at Kyle’s insistence. Breakfast was a joy, and the boys decided we needed a day out of the house.

“Is that safe?” I asked.

They exchanged a look, and both laughed.

“Oh, yeah,” Kyle said. “Safe as can be, especially after we stop off at the armory before we go.”

“Okay, butwhereare we going?”

“Shopping?” Roan suggested, and I made a face. Kyle laughed.

“Where do you want to go, babe?” he asked.

I smiled and turned to him.

“Indigo City Museum of Fine Art,” I answered, and he cocked his head. I rolled my eyes. I thought for sure he would remember.

“Remember?” I prodded, and he shook his head slowly.

“We couldn’t justgo, we could never afford it,” I said. “Then you found out that the first Thursday of every month, general admission was free and you convinced me to skip school and took me.”

“Right, the school called Prissy,” he said, scowling darkly. I nodded.

“I was locked up and Dean whipped you with his belt,” I murmured.

He nodded and said, “But the museum—”

“Was probably the best day of my life while in foster care,” I admitted. “Even though we had that fight and you left me there.”

He made a face, wincing slightly. “Yeah, I certainly fuckedthatup,” he agreed. “What was that fight even about?”

“That part I can’t remember,” I said softly. “I just remember it was the greatest day of my life since my parents had died.”

“Then to the museum,” Conan said judiciously. “And this time, wecanafford it and nothing will be off-limits.”

“Lunch atChevalier?” Kyle asked.

“Perfect,” Roan agreed. “I’ll make the reservation.”

Kyle squeezed my hand with a wink and I smiled, happy.

Thank you,I mouthed at him and his smile grew.

“Anything for you, babe,” he said, and I knew that he meant it.
