My eyes widened at the growling in my head, removing any doubt that he hadn’t heard me. The bastard was only trying to keep me off balance while he took me to whatever punishment he had in mind for me.

Why should I punish you?Ryu’s voice filtered into my mind with a hard tone as if he already knew the answer to the question.

Feigning innocence once more, I shrugged.How am I supposed to know what you monsters like? Maybe this is some kind of monster mating ritual.

Ryu jerked to a stop and I bounced off his back, his tail tangling around my feet, knocking me to the ground. Rubbing my hip, I glared up at the drake king.

After all this time you still consider us monsters, princess?

Refusing to back down, I pushed to my feet, and shoved a finger at his chest.If you are going to act like monsters then I can hardly think you are anything else. You are treating me as if I weren’t your equal and that in itself is a monstrosity. I am every bit as important as you.

Ryu stared at me for a long moment and then opened his mouth as he leaned his head back and laughed. For a solid minute, the drake king laughed at me until my fingers curled into fists at my side and I reared back one of them and smacked him in the chest.

Something in my hand gave way and a sharp throbbing pain reverberated through my hand and wrist. Holding my hand to my chest, tears burned my eyes as Ryu stopped laughing, concern flashing through his eyes before that cold wall went back in place.

You say you want to be treated as an equal but were you treating me as such when you rutted with my brother and then avoided me for three days?

I sucked in a breath of pain, of course not, but because he was right. I hadn’t been acting like he was my equal at all. Not the way he was saying it, like what we had didn’t matter.

However...

Staring down at my injured hand, I sniffed and said out loud, “I apologize.” In my head, I said,I haven’t been in this situation before — not that it’s an excuse —I quickly added, lifting my gaze to the king’s with a determined frown.I don’t know what this is —I gestured between us. —I wasn’t trying to hide it.I blew out a breath.I just didn’t know how to explain it since I wasn’t sure if there was anything to explain.I dropped my eyes down at my hand which was quickly becoming swollen and purple.

A clawed finger lifted my chin to meet his gaze.I am not angry at you for rutting with my brother.

You’re not?I cocked a brow and then scowled.Then what’s all this about?I gestured between us with my good hand.

The hand on my chin dropped down to wrap around my throat. Ryu lifted me, pushing me up against the wall of the corridor, until his face was inches from mine.I might share with my brother on occasion but that still doesn’t mean I won’t punish you for going behind my back and avoiding me.

A cold shiver went down my spine at the threat while heat pooled between my thighs at what kind of punishment could be in store for me.
