“I guess the honeymoon is over?” I taunted him, lifting my chin to look my nose down on him. It was a bit hard to do from the ground.

Callahan grabbed me by the face, his fingers squeezing my cheeks together as he leaned over me. “Oh my love, the honeymoon is just getting started.” He pressed his lips against mine, shoving his tongue into my mouth.

I grunted and struggled against his hold. Tempted to bite his tongue off,my fingers curled around the handle of the dagger I remembered I had. Almost smiling into the forced kiss, I shoved at him with one hand while slowly lifting the other holding the dagger.

All I had to do was stab him in just the right place and all this would be over. No war, no need to put anyone else at risk. If I could just kill the reason behind all of my issues, we could all have our happily ever after.

A thought flickered in my mind that surprised me.

What about Ryu... what about Ira? If this all ended, did everything go back to the way it was before? The Kinokos pretending the drakes didn’t exist and the drake hiding away in the mountain like a noble’s bastard child they didn’t want anyone to know about.

When the snake’s hand tried to pull up my skirt, he decided for me.

I flipped the dagger in my hand and shoved up. Callahan shoved me away before I could drive it home. I hit the ground hard, my teeth jarring in my head.

Before I could see the damage I had done, Callahan was on me in a second. One hand grabbed my hair at my scalp jerking my head back while his other hand grabbed mine holding the dagger. His hand tightened on my hand until I cried out and dropped the dagger. It fell to the ground where Callahan kicked it away.

“Look who learned a few new tricks.” Callahan flipped the dagger in his hand and grinned down at me. “Now, that wasn’t very nice.”

I spit in his face. “Now you know how it feels,Cal.”

“Oh, sweet precious Georgia,” he laughed and didn’t bother to wipe his face off of my saliva. “There is nothing you can do to me that I haven’t already had done to me by my dear old father.”

I sniffed, the idea of someone cutting up the asshole in front of me causing a bit of joy to spark in my heart. “Boo hoo. Like father, like son, I suppose.”

Callahan jerked me by the hair, making me hiss. “I’m nothing like him.”

“Tell that to the scars on my body,” I growled, kicking a leg out in a move that Beautine had taught me. My foot hit the front of his knee. Callahan crumbled before me, releasing his grip on my hand and braid.

I scrambled away on all fours, before shoving up onto my feet and heading for the tent opening. I flipped the tent cover open and ran into a hard wall of muscle. Hands grabbed my arms and my eyes jerked up to meet those of my second least favorite person.

Luis.

“Well,” his eyes darkened, skimming over me before glancing behind me and into the tent. “Seems like I’m right on time. Need a hand, brother?”

Of course this would be just my luck.
