“I’m fine,” I snap.
She flinches like I just slapped her.
I open my mouth to apologize when my phone rings.
Jade backs away, and I tighten my hands into fists so I don’t reach for her.
“See you later,” she says softly before turning and heading inside.
I curse before I pull out my phone and answer it.
“Yeah?”
“Well, good morning to you, too, sunshine,” Camden greets me cheerfully. “Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?”
“Shut up. What do you want?”
“I found someone.”
“For what?”
“For your blind date. Remember?”
“Oh.”
“Don’t sound too excited,” he grumbles.
“Who is it?”
“I’m not telling you. It’s a blind date. You’ll meet her at the restaurant.”
“When is it?”
“Tomorrow night. Toasty Buns.”
“What time?”
“Six. Be there or else.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I sigh.
“I mean it. Don’t stand this girl up.”
“I won’t,” I promise.
“Good. I’ve got to run. Lymric is coming back this afternoon, and I need to go to the store. Have fun on your date. I expect all the details in a few days.”
“Aye, aye, captain.”
“Smartass.” He laughs before he hangs up.
I sigh as I tuck my phone back into my pocket and rub my shoulder.
My eyes land on Jade’s house again. As I head inside, I can’t help but wish my date tomorrow night was with my curvy neighbor.
