The truth is that sometimes blood doesn’t matter.
It’s not always thicker than water.
Sometimes it doesn’t meananything.
CHAPTER NINE
ORA
By the time I finish work, I’m exhausted. War drove me home to have a quick shower and then to work this morning, and I made it there with five minutes to spare. Not that Lu would care much if I was a little late, but my problem is I hate being late.
War dropped me off, and I haven’t heard from him since. I know he had Church, so maybe something’s going on at the club. At least I left my car here overnight, so I don’t need to ask anyone for a ride home.
When I pull into my house, my neighbor, Pippa, is standing out front, watching a motorcycle ride away—looks like I might have just missed Ghost. How sad. Pippa throws a dirty look in my direction and then heads inside. She’s never been the friendliest neighbor, and after initially introducing myself with some cupcakes when I first moved in, we haven’t spoken much.
I’m just climbing into bed, after a long bath, with my Kindle when I get a text.
War
Have to go on a run. I’ll be away for a few nights. Be ready Saturday night for the club party.
Ora
Club party? What do I wear?
War
You’ll look sexy in anything you wear. Lucky I can fight.
Ora
No fighting.
War
No promises.
Ora
Can I bring Lu? We’re having dinner Saturday night, but I can come after.
War
Yeah, you can bring Lu. You need anything, message me.
Ora
Okay, be safe.
A club party.
Never thought I’d be going to one of those.
I don’t know what to expect, but after seeing what Rose was doing to Lore in broad daylight, I can only imagine how the party will go.
Lu’s going to love it, so I call and tell her the plan. To which she tells me we’re going shopping tomorrow.
Time to make a statement.
