Jamie gives Wyatt another warning glare as we walk away."Pull it together," she teases before hitting him with a mischievous grin."Or you're going to have to stay here and report to me."
Wyatt pretends to be horrified, walking backward and putting a hand to his chest.
Jamie laughs before giving me a small wave."Really nice to see you again, Naomi.Hopefully, I'll catch up with you tonight.Good luck."
As people move from the various competitions, they remain oblivious to the lightning strike that's just occurred amongst them.A fated pair.A partnership chosen by the moon goddess herself.True love.
"They can't stay away from each other," Wyatt comments as Dean emerges from the crowd, snags Jamie by the waist, and then pulls her in for a passionate kiss. Her arms wrap around the back of his shirt just as his hands slide up to cup her face. It's hard not to swoon seeing how in love they are.
I want that.
As I glance to the side at Wyatt, I see the tantalising possibility of having it for myself, but then I hear Brad’s voice in my head.
He’d cornered me right before I left, reminding me not to think about running.
"Have your fun. You'll be mine, one way or another," he’d promised, his fingers digging into my arm hard enough to bruise."Either willingly, or I'll make sure your sister pays the price for what she did.I won’t protect her anymore."
I can’t make him any angrier.I need to get through this competition and keep him off my back. Then, if Wyatt still wants me, maybe we could be together and enjoy all of this.
"Want to be challenge buddies?"I ask, and Wyatt looks at me, his gaze finally settling on my lips as his wolf blazes in his eyes.
“Whose else’s would I be?”
The heat between us ratchets up, tingles spreading over every inch of my body, my core coiling tight in anticipation of what's to come.
Soon, I hope, but not yet.
“I’m not as strong as you, but I’m quick… and…” I trail off, not sure what I can add to Wyatt's already impressive chances of winning.
"You couldn't stop me from being your challenge buddy," he says, and from the determination in his eyes, I don’t doubt that’s true.“It would be harder to stay away.”
Which is going to be a problem.
When Wyatt picks me up with stunning ease and carries me inside the food tent, a girly giggle falls from my lips, and my belly swoops with desire for him.My wolf pushes forward, eager for his wolf to see her looking right back, but panic bubbles up inside me.
Oh, I'm in trouble.
BIG TROUBLE.

Naomi is skittish. That’s why I said nothing to Jamie.I need to get my mate alone first and find out what’s making her so nervous.
When I set her down, she’s stiff, brushing off her clothes and stepping away from me, still attempting to keep her distance, while at the same time drawing me closer.I’m confused, but I can be patient.Something's wrong, something she's not telling me, and my protective instincts are now on high alert.
Hopefully, it’s not my rogue status that’s giving her cause for concern.
We can’t take our eyes off each other as we make our way toward the tables laden down with an endless supply of food and water for the competitors. The one thing I have to give my new brother-in-law credit for is that he knows how to feed a crowd of starving wolves.
“Here.”I hand Naomi a bottle of water and a selection of snacks to choose from before retrieving my own.
She accepts them with a shy smile, and I feel the weight of her eyes on me as I gather more supplies and tuck them in my pockets.
“Picnic,” I explain, and she raises an eyebrow, wondering why I’m squirrelling away food from an all-you-can-eat buffet.
“Come around here.Sit with me.It’s quieter.”
