“I’m not in love.” I might be hung up on the curvy romance author, but I’m certainly not in love with a woman I hardly know. That might change, though. If I can just convince her to stay. Write a couple more books before she makes any big moves. I just need more fucking time. Because deep in my gut, I know there is something here. Something big. Something important. Something eternal.

“That blue handprint says differently,” Marshall teases.

“What about you?” I ask, hoping to shift the target off my back. “You wearing the look too?”

“This ain’t about me,” he says.

Thankfully Chief Knox chooses that moment to announce we’re good to head back to the station. We load up and headdowntown, the roar of the engine making it impossible for Marshall to continue his interrogation about the handprint.

An hour later, gear checked and stowed, I’m just grabbing my wallet and truck keys when I hear my phone chime.

At the sight of Kelsey’s name on my screen, I’m instantly taken back to that mind blowing kiss we shared. I’m a passionate guy when I want to be, but that fucking kiss was on another level. My dick starts to harden beneath the zipper of my jeans at the memory of her lips pressed to mine.

Her tongue swirling in perfect rhythm against my own.

My fingers undoing the clasp of her bra.

Her tit in my hand, hard nipple begging for attention.

I quickly make my way out to the truck before I read her message. She might be telling me to go to hell, but my dick doesn’t care. The fucker is rock hard. I don’t need Marshall or anyone else calling out my fucking hard on.

Kelsey:Everything okay?

Me:Worried about me Princess?

Kelsey:So what if I am?

I make her wait the two minutes it takes for me to drive home before answering.

Me:I’m fine. But if you want to pretend there’s burns all over my body and come nurse me back to health, I’m not saying no.

The three little dots appear and disappear several times. It gives me time to get inside and strip down to my boxers. I’m just about to type a text back, let her know I was teasing, when her reply finally comes through.

Kelsey:You’d like that too much. ;)

Kelsey:What happened on the call?

Me:You nearly burned down the assisted living facility.

Kelsey:What?! How is that MY fault?

Me:Someone was reading one of your dirty books and forgot she was cooking a pizza.

Kelsey:You’re lying.

Me:Swear on my nephew’s life I’m telling the truth.

Kelsey:You have a nephew?

Me:Keigh. He’s ten.

Kelsey:You want kids?

Kelsey:Wait, don’t answer that.

Kelsey:Forget I asked.

Me:I want kids.
