Cam arrived soon after. It made me laugh that even after everything he still wore his worn leather jacket, black shirt, and faded black jeans. He was the prime example of it not being ‘just a phase.’

“Hey,” I called as I waved him over.

He slid down next to me, waving the bar tender down for his own bourbon. “Where the hell have you been?” he asked, hardly returning my greeting. “I haven’t seen you in a while.”

I lifted my brow. “That’s probably because you’re never in one place for long enough to visit anyone?”

Cam had become quite the jetsetter once we made our money, and I couldn’t really blame him for it either. He’d always talked about wanting to travel once the nightmare of coffee fueled overnights was over. And he hadn’t been lying.

He shrugged. “Did you get tied down or something?”

I glanced away, taking my own sip, hoping to pretend I just didn’t hear him.

“Ah, so you are. Not for me, but I’m happy for you.”

“It’s with… the girl I met.”

He hissed as he took a sip. “You’re gonna have to be more specific than that.”

I cleared my throat. “The one I met at the heat hotel.”

He turned to me now. “You know you’re not supposed to like follow them home or anything.”

“Do I look like you?” Not that he ever had before, but something told me he had it in him if he really wanted to. “No we met because she’s dating Jesse.”

He blinked at me for a moment, as if downloading the information. “Jesse pulled an omega? Good for them.”

I groaned, putting my face in my arms. “This is serious.”

He sighed. “Alright, tell me everything.”

So I did. I told him about the number exchange after the heat hotel, never texting her, about glitch. Then everything that came when Jesse introduced us. My mouth was dry by the time I was done, I didn’t think I’d ever talked that long before.

“Damn, I knew you were a freak,” was his only comment when I was done.

A sharp laugh came from me. Of course that’s what he’d be thinking about after all of that.

“So now I’m just… waiting and hoping they take me back.”

“They will,” he said with every sense of surety.

“How do you know?"

“You’re bonded. That shit doesn’t just go away.”

That was one thing that did give me hope in all of this. Breaking a bond wasn’t as simple as ending a relationship, or even getting a divorce, it was a physical process that could leave you permanently changed after. I would never fight either of them if that’s the route they wanted to take, but everything inside of me screamed how terrible that would be.

My phone buzzed. I was sure it was the Lack work channel. They’d been talking all day, and normally I muted, but it was a project I’d been looped in on, and at least wanted to be aware about.

As I pulled out my phone though everything stopped.

Babygirl - Come to my place.

It was so simple, but I couldn’t say no. “I have to go.”

“What” Cam said, “but you haven’t even finished your…”

His voice faded as I exited the building, headed straight for my car. I peeled out of the parking lot and raced to Jesse’s. Was I getting my second chance? Was I getting told to get lost? I wasn’t sure, but either way, I was ready.
