Chapter Six

Keira turned towardDaniel.“I want to apologize for my sister. It’s got to be as uncomfortable for you as it is for me, how blatantly they’re trying to throw us together.I would totally understand if you just left.I’m not your responsibility.”

“Are you done?”His eyebrows lowered.

Keira’s eyes widened, and she took a shuddering breath as she nodded at Daniel’s gruff voice. He exhaled.“First of all, no one can push me into something I don’t want to do.Secondly, I’m glad they’re trying to get us together because I’m very attracted to you, and I want to get to know you better.”

A smile pulled at Keira’s lips.“Is there a third?”

Daniel chuckled.“And third, Miss Smart-ass, I already told you I’d be driving you home tonight.”

“All right then, let’s go.It’s been a long day, and I have to get up early in the morning to work, and I’m sure you’re tired.”

The drive to Layla’s house, now her house, was peaceful.Daniel helped her gather the things from the church in the back of his SUV.He waited patiently for her to find the key and unlock the front door.

“You can lay everything on the sofa,” she said over her shoulder as she set down her purse and keys on the kitchen table and bent to take off her shoes. She turned and gasped when she bumped into a solid wall of heat.“I’m sorry.”

Daniel smiled and gripped her shoulders to steady her.“No, I’m sorry.”

They stood for a moment just looking at each other.

“Can I take you out to dinner tomorrow night?”

Keira gripped her hands tightly in front of her.“I’d like that.”

“Good.”Daniel squeezed her shoulders one more time and moved a step away from her before he bent and kissed her passionately, making her heartbeat rise.

“Tomorrow, then, I’ll pick you up at six?”

She cleared her throat.“That would be fine. The shop closes at two.”

His thumb rubbed back and forth on her bottom lip.“I’m warning you now.I’m going to want to kiss you tomorrow, so if that’s something you don’t want, you need to tell me.”

Keira shook her head, her gaze heated.“Then I’ll warn you, I probably won’t say no.”

Daniel groaned and backed away.“I’d better leave before I give in to my urge and things get out of hand.Because I guarantee, when we kiss, it will be explosive.”

She could only nod her head, afraid if she opened her mouth, she’d beg him to stay.

He turned back to the front door.“I’ll see you tomorrow.Lock the door.”

Keira stood for a second before she took a deep breath and locked the door. She leaned against the door and couldn’t stop smiling.Daniel was wonderful. So handsome, sweet, sexy, and respectful. She couldn’t imagine any other man coming close to him.She couldn’t believe how well her life was coming together with everything she’d ever dreamed about. She lived close to her sister, went into business with her, and found a man she could see herself with in the future.

An hour ago, she’d thought he hadn’t wanted to be with her, if his expression on the dance floor was any indication. Now, seeing the warmth in his face and the way he kissed her, her hopes rose.

Keira undressed, hanging up the beautiful dress she wore to the wedding, before pinning her hair up and stepping into the shower. The warm water helped any residual tension evaporate. After brushing her teeth and pulling on a nightgown, she slid into bed.

She’d been so tired that she thought she’d drift to sleep, but instead, she lay there looking up at the ceiling and remembering everything about the wedding and reception. The night had been magical, and she was pleased it turned out so well for her sister.Layla deserved to be happy and have her every dream come true.

Maybe someday her own dreams would come true.
