“How about we watch a movie first?I can’t go to bed with a full stomach.”Her fingers swept the back of his head and speared through his hair, loving the feel of the thick softness against her skin.“Let me clean up the kitchen.”

He gave her one quick, hard kiss before he pushed her to her feet.“No, you go pick out a movie. You cooked, the least I can do is clean up.”

“Oh, but you don’t...”

“Go.I know how to clean up.”

A grin tugged at her lips.“Promise you won’t eat any more cheesecake?”

Daniel snatched up a towel and turned to snap it at her.“Woman, you’ll never get me to promise that.”

She giggled and walked toward her bedroom, but stopped in the kitchen doorway.“Hey, Daniel?”

He turned from clearing the table.“What, Honey?”

“Are you staying the night again?”

Daniel studied her, and it took a great deal for her not to reveal her emotions.

“I am unless you want me to go.”

Keira smiled.“No.I like having you here.”

“Okay.Good.”

Chapter Fourteen

Keira walked into thehouse the next day after work and froze. Her stomach tightened at the sound coming from the small room past the kitchen. Then it hit her.She hurried to the laundry room to find her washer on and at the end of a wash cycle.Shaking, she opened the lid.Bile swam in the back of her throat when she found a pair of her panties that had been in her drawer that morning.

Immediately, disgusting thoughts ran through her head as she backed out of the laundry room. The urge to flee or call the police was so strong, but she still had nothing to show them, and she knew the man was long gone. She could feel it somehow. The sense of darkness he brought with him when he invaded her home faded after he was gone.

Keira walked cautiously into her bedroom to see the bed made, but the corner of the comforter was pulled back a bit like a person was ready for bed.But worst of all, her underwear, all of it, was folded and put on top of her dresser in neat little stacks. She knew she needed help, but she dreaded asking. If one more person let her down, she didn’t think she’d be able to recover.

She couldn’t force the tears back anymore. She sat on the side of the bed and sobbed, feeling more alone than she ever had before.

“What happened?”he asked, concerned.
