“Is that you having another dig at me?” He huffs out, feeling a pang of anger brewing.
“No, babe, fuck off. Christ, Chris tells me all about your skills. I know you have them. He’s like, ridiculously in love with you and has no complaints. I know you know your way around dick, so chill. We said. Chill. Chill!”
“I’m chill.”
“You’re about to shout at me.” Sara pouts.
“I’m not going to shout. I’m happy for you.”
“He’s nice. And he has a big dick.”
“Can I meet him?”
“No. Not yet, don’t want to jinx it, but I told him I have the most amazing ex who is gay and really great, and he asked the same thing. Wanted to meet you and go for dinner or something.”
“He sounds nice.”
“That’s a terrible thing to say.”
“He sounds awesome. Better?”
“Babe?”
“Yeah?”
“We’re good. You’re my favourite person in the whole wide world, apart from Emi, and I will try to chill. As long as you chill too. Can we do that?”
“Do Christmas, all chilled?”
“Yeah?” She’s beautiful when she smiles, and it makes him all warm, that she’s happy. Perhaps it’s not that bad. Perhaps, he just needs to de-stress. Chill.
“We’re going to see Christopher’s family tomorrow.” He says quietly.
“I’ll come over in the morning and we’ll do presents. It’s fine. I remember.”
“Thank you.” He whispers. “Thank you for being so great with everything.”
“Thank you.” She whispers back. “Thanks for being the best.”
“I’m the best?” He giggles.
“You’re fucking brilliant.” She says, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Now go grab me some wine before I pass out. All this blood pressure, and hot blokes everywhere. “
“I’m hot.” He laughs.
“Don’t I know it.” She punches his arm. “Your boyfriend is even hotter. Now let’s go find him so I can make everyone jealous with my next Instagram posts.Chillaxed Family Christmas with @Christopher Pedersen. He says he doesn’t mind me tagging him. He’s so bloody cool. Love him.”
Mattias breathes. He manages to have fun with Sara, and they hug more than they have done in years. They talk, and they laugh. Giggle and tease. It’s nice. No, it’s more than nice. It’s a strange comfort, that Mattias hasn’t realised he has missed. Family. It might not be picture postcard perfect, but it’s Christmas, and he needed this. All of this.
