Luna reached out, trailing her fingers over the chain. She felt his heartbeat beating out of control. She grasped the “L” with her finger, pulling him towards her. He followed, completely and utterly stuck in her gaze.

She gave him a little smirk.

“Show me you’re mine.”

And he did.

TWENTY-FOUR

LUNA

The fire burned bright, painting the room in a soft orange light when Valerio wrapped his hands in Luna’s hair, pulling her lips to his in a frenzy. He pulled her onto his lap, drifting his hands from her hair, to the nape of her neck, down the curve of her spine. The movements stopped at her waist where he grabbed her sweatshirt and pulled it over her head.

They pulled apart so he could slip it off completely, but when he tried reconnecting their lips again, Luna pushed him back.

“Wait, I have a cute outfit I wanted to put on,” she said breathlessly.

“Save it for another time,” he growled, trying to reattach their lips again.

“I bought it specifically for tonight.”

“I’m just going to end up ripping it off of you,” he said, playing with the straps on the bra she currently wore. “I would prefer you without any clothes right now.”

“I’ll take two seconds,” she said, getting up quickly. She could feel his heated eyes on her the entire time, only escaping them in the safety of the bedroom.

Luna was still attempting to catch her breath when she pulled the white teddy dress out of her bag, clutching it toher chest. The room was mostly plain except for the dark oak bedside tables that sat on either side of the huge bed, which took up most of the room. The headboard, darker than the other wood in the room, stretched up the wall and covered nearly half of the window behind it. Luna pulled the thick light brown curtains closed to cover the rest of the window before stripping. She slipped into the lingerie she’d bought knowing that their relationship was going to take this next step.

She grabbed the small mirror from her bag, checking herself over. She checked her teeth, fixed her hair, and made sure she was completely presentable. Her eyes were bright, cheeks flushed.

She was going to give him her virginity, and that felt so right to her. She didn’t fight it and didn’t hate it. She had always known it was going to be him, and that was why she got on birth control the moment they signed the contract again after their night in the forest.

Heat built up in her core thinking about that night and how he chased her, promising to make her his. She didn’t want gentle. No, she wanted to be ravaged just like he had done before when she couldn’t stand on her own legs.

She smiled at the thought. They had come so far, and she wouldn’t change anything about it. Not a chance.

Luna walked out of the room, taking a deep breath when she saw Valerio standing by the fireplace, his shirt long gone. He stood in the dimmed light in only a pair of gray sweats. The sight left her breathless, and it only intensified when he looked at her.

His eyes traced her body, taking their time. She heard his deep inhale; it made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Being gazed upon like she was some magnificent painting or statue wasn’t something she was used to, but when Valerio looked at her that way, he made her feel like that was the onlyway anyone should. Like she was the best thing anyone had ever laid their eyes on.

She took a small step forward, suddenly feeling like some little rabbit who had been found by a big bad wolf in the forest. He didn’t look away from her, not for a moment.

“Do you like it?” she asked, taking another step forward.

He inhaled. “You look like an angel.”

Her lips quirked up. “Is that a good thing?”

Valerio’s eyes darkened. “Not when you have the devil’s attention.”

“And you’re the devil in this situation?”

He smirked. “Haven’t you always known that?”

She did. “Well, while we’re on the topic, I wanted to ask you something. Make a deal, if you will.”

This time his eyes lit up in curiosity. Valerio walked over to where she was standing, grabbing a strand of her brown hair in his fingers. “Ask away.”

She traced his arm. “Do you remember the night we signed the contract?”
