“You’re both ridiculous. It was obvious.” She grabbed her ponytail and wrapped it around her hand.

The vision reminded me of when I said I wanted to wrap my hands around Jackal’s hair and ride him like a pony.I wonder if he’d be okay with that.

“What’s so funny?” Daisy asked.

“Huh? Oh, just daydreaming.”

“About weddings?” Lacy asked wistfully.

“About fucking Jackal, but good try.”

They both laughed and I shrugged with a Cheshire grin.

“What about kids?” Lacy asked.

“You and Eagle will make such pretty babies,” I answered.

“Won’t we? He’s so handsome. But I meant you. Jackal is a little older. Do you think he wants kids?”

“I never really thought of kids. I’ve seen several births and it doesn’t appeal to me. Why don’t you have babies and I’ll be cool Auntie Shiv?”

Lacy looked like she’d seen a ghost. “No kids? Ever? You don’t think you’ll change your mind?”

“I mean. I never say never to anything because that’s the best way to jinx yourself. But honestly, I don’t think I’d be missing out on anything. Plus, both of you plan to have babies. I’ll play with yours.”

Daisy asked, “What if Jackal did want to have kids?”

“I think he should have that discussion with the woman heplans to marry. Pretty serious business.”

“You really are the dumbest smart person I’ve ever met,” Daisy said as she drank the last of the beer in her bottle.

“We barely started hooking up. I think you’re getting ahead of yourselves.”

“Okay. Whatever you say, Shiv,” Lacy said with a grin.

Suddenly it was a million degrees in there. How did I go from finding a biker daddy to talking about babies?

Chapter 25

Jackal

We’d been busy the last few days. Hawk spoke to Cindy about the Madame, but they hadn’t been in touch in a while, so it wasn’t as easy as we’d hoped to find her. Prostitution wasn’t legal in Georgia, so it wasn’t like she had a brick and mortar with a flashing sign.

Keys was on the job to find her contact info while we were hitting the streets hoping to see the Hellbound Heathens, or Butch. Hell, we had some of the bouncers at the nearby strip clubs watching for anything suspicious, and if we saw anything questionable, we tailed it.

Tonight was the night we planned to put some of the trackers back on and split up into groups.

“Hawk, let me holler at ya,” I said as I caught him in the hall leaving the computer lab.

“Hey, brother. What’s up?” he asked as he threaded his fingersthrough his hair. He usually kept it combed into a style that reminded me of a greaser, only it didn’t look greasy. Even after wearing a helmet, it usually looked exactly as it did before he put it on. But today it was mussed up, some of it falling onto his brow.

I gripped his shoulder. “Prez, this may not be my place, but I know the others agree with me. You need to hang back tonight.”

“You’re right. It’s not your place. But I appreciate you.” He didn’t appear mad, just very matter of fact.

Clearing my throat, I continued, “Listen, you patched me in because I’m a lifer. You voted me an officer because I understand this club and Enforcers are supposed to uphold the rules and protect the club at all costs, right?” I asked, my brow going up. Not waiting for an answer, I went on. “If the VP is out there already, and something happens to you, what do you think will happen to us? I have a feeling whoever this is didn’t plan to stop with your pops.”

“Jackal, I hear you. But understand this…Iamthis club, and this club is me. If I can’t lead you out there,” he said, pointing over my shoulder, “I have no business leading you in here. If this day is my destiny, so be it. But I won’t sit back and wait around. I’m going. If you want to ride with me, then fine.”
