“There is so much more to see, but Chester just texted, and we have to go to Olympia. We can explore more later. I have a team coming in today to remove the furniture from the other wing.”

“What are you doing with the other wing?”

“The staff will stay there.”

“Staff?” I question. Do we need more than just Petra?

“Yes, a nanny will be hired and also security.”

“We will circle back to this nanny thing when everyone is here. There are eleven of us and two babies. We won’t need a nanny.”

“Tenshi, we will eventually have to return to class and go on missions as they get older. We figured we would hire a live-in nanny to help you as much or as little as you need. That way, they will be around as the babies get older, and they can bond with this person. In terms of security for the babies, it’s protocolbecause our instinct is to protect you, and we are unsure if we’re put in a position to save you or them, whether we could override that instinct.”

“So, what you’re saying is they will have handlers?”

Creed shrugs. “Call it what you like, but yes, our daughter will have a handler until the boys are of an age that they can do the job.”

“Only her? Why not Zadom?”

Creed looks at me, trying to work out what he is going to say. “If we gave every baby a handler, we wouldn’t have enough. Once the boys start school, they will have one for their entire team until they finish high school, just like everyone else always did.”

“Not Team Hades—they had all of you.”

He scratches his forehead. “Our situation was different, but if you want to change things, you can hash it out with Brennan. You’re in charge now.”

He’s right, I need to think more about how we will proceed in the future. I don’t want to change the things that have worked.

Creed drives me to the university, where Laughn is waiting, leaning against his car and smoking a cigarette.

“You know those things will kill you.”

“Hopefully not before you do,” he says, throwing the butt onto the ground and standing on it.

“I have a class to teach. I’ll see you tonight,” Creed says, before walking off. Laughn takes his brother’s place beside me and throws an arm over my shoulder.

“Let’s see if Chester can teach us some shit today.”

“You know, I never pegged you for a scientist.”

“That’s because I’m not,” he says as we walk into the main building. “I just like blowing shit up, and it helps to know things first.”

Laughing, I shake my head at him. My classes are based on the guys’ schedules. I know it’s stupid, but honestly, what use do I have for a degree when I already have this place? This is my life now. I figure everything they do will help run this place, and some basic knowledge on that could help.

Laughn and I walk into the class hand in hand, and I stop dead in my tracks when I see Chester and Scarlett standing at the front of the class. With a grimace, I unlock our fingers and walk up to them.

“I wanted to apologise for my outburst, Scarlett. I’m not normally that crazy.”

“It’s fine. I’m related to this idiot, and nothing is crazier than him.”

I chuckle, and Chester grabs my biceps and pulls me into his arms. “You look fucking beautiful,” he whispers in my ear, taking my lobe between his teeth.

I swat him away. Now isn’t the time or place for him to do that. “That’s not very teachery, teach,” Laughn says with a laugh.

“Yeah, and keeping a human pet for years wasn’t very humany, now was it,” Chester throws back, and Laughn smirks. I hadn’t initially noticed when he stopped keeping one until it was pointed out to me. It was weird, but you don’t expect anything less from Laughn.

Once I take my seat, Chester and Scarlett start the class, and it drags on. I really don’t understand a lot and can already tell this might be a class I will fail. The jump from high school chemistry to this is a lot to take in.

“I wonder if I can sleep with the teacher to get a passing grade,” I whisper to Laughn.
