After I’d taken the ropes and unlocked the handcuffs, I placed my suit jacket over Charles’s body. He glanced at me a second, slumped forward into my arms, then he glanced up slanted his weak head, and smiled. “I thought you’d never rescue me.” I took that as he was delusional and thinking he was on a movie set.
“I’m here, and you’re being rescued.”
He looped his weak arms around my neck, and gave a quivering smile. “My knight in shining armor.”
“Yes. Something like that.”
“You won’t leave me, will you, because I think I’m in love with you.” I shook my head.Too many fairytales at a young age.
“You’re just having a bad dream, my boy,” I said, looking up at the steps I had to climb with him in my arms. I should be carrying Cole over the threshold about now, but instead I was trying to save a young man who reminded me of me. I didn’t have a knight to save me, I saved myself.
“I know what a bad dream is because I just went through one, and it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought this would be fun and games,” Charlie said, his voice weak.
“Yeah, sometimes it can be wonderful with the right person.” I took each step quietly, and finally I could see the lights. I had to get out of here quickly without Mansfield rousing about, because I’d depended on him being satisfied with the money I’d given him, and turning his back on anything I might do.
“I think you’re the right man for me, and I want to be your boy.”
“You’re not serious?” I glanced at him with a furrowed brow. It appeared by the simple look on his face and him smiling ear to ear he was indeed not joking. Because he was in terrible shape, I didn’t want to hurt his mental state by telling him I wasn’t his knight, and he wasn’t the boy I’d been looking for, because I had all I needed with Cole.
“I’m going to take you to my place and clean you up and then we’ll discuss this. You’re just not thinking right.” I don’t think this young man ever took time to think. “I have a partner and he’ll take offense with me having another man.”
“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Keep quiet for now because someone will hear you.” He made a gesture as if he was locking his mouth. Unfortunately he still had the key. I reached the top step and Charlie had his head on my chest and now he was asleep.
I had to get to the door, and then open the gates with my key in my suit pocket and hold on to Charlie at the same time. I decided to wake him up. He could sleep later I surmised. “Can you stand?”
He smiled. “I think I can.” I placed his feet on the floor and held him with one hand, and with the other I retrieved the key and opened the first door, then I made it through and gathered him in my arms and headed to the other door when it opened.
Chapter 15
Daniel
“Itold you to stayin the car, Cole.” Cole narrowed his eyes when I barked at him. I knew I might have been too sharp when speaking, my voice harsh, nothing like he’d been used to with me. This was a place I never wanted him to know about. Not that part of my life, and it was because of that I tried to prevent Cole from walking down the same road I had before I met him. When I first saw him stroll in my club, his hands in his pockets his eyes lowered, I thought at any moment he’d pull them out to suck his thumb. He appeared nervous, unsure, and totally out of his element when he locked eyes with me.
Once I gazed into his eyes, I knew this was his first time hanging out and looking for a man who shared his desires.
