Chapter 4

Cole

––––––––

Charles sat quietly, his hand and fingers poised on his cheek staring at me with those deceptive enticing manipulative eyes, plump lips and lean body with a cute hard ass that wasn’t lost on me, even if I was in love with a man that made my heart skip a beat and made me blind to everyone else.

“I guess you’re all I have. Max said you’re gay—” Why the fuck did he tell him that? Why the fuck did it matter?

“I don’t share my personal life with anyone.”

“I asked for a lawyer who I could talk to. I asked if he had any LGBTQ lawyers, and he said you, and that you were the best and you would get the job done. And you were around my age.”

I stared and wondered, but then Max would say anything that would bring in extra money into his firm. Not that he needed it, but he had to have been thinking about the future of his firm, because most of the men working for him were in their fifties and sixties. I needed the work and to prove myself, or I would be a memory because there were many young men looking to take my place, and do anything legal or otherwise.

“Mr. St. John... I don’t get personal with my clients.” Charlie strode and sat at the corner of my desk, and leaned into me with one of his charming, closed smiles.

“Could you not sit on my desk. I don’t want anyone, especially you, to get the wrong impression.”

“The only wrong impression anyone could get is that it’s impossible not to be attracted to you. I have lots of men wanting to be with me, but I’m not interested in the entertainment types. Never enough time to be with them because they’re doing their own things at the same time you’re doing yours. Actors, musicians, I have no use for them.” Then Charlie stood, tucked his hands in his pockets and my eyes fell on his hands and I could see he had a large penis. I didn’t dismiss that until I realized that he was an actor. He made his way around to my computer and me.

“Obviously, you don’t know who I am. When I leave then google me.” I didn’t have time for that. I had to sign off on some of the work I had transferred to New York. “I’m busy, Charles—”

“See you’re warming up to me already.”

“I’m not warming up to you. You’re taking advantage of the situation. I think it’s time to bring my secretary into my office, then maybe you mightbehaveyourself.” I wished. He’d made a point that he knew few could resist him, and I was nervous being close to him, because he was so damn pretty.

I gazed up at Charlie when he smiled, and said, “Children behave themselves. I’m a man who makes a billion dollars when I sign a piece of paper stating that I will use my abilities and face to bring in people to the theaters. I signed that contract because work had dried up during Covid. Now I want out and can you do it for me, or should I tell Max that you can’t handle this because it’s over your head?”

He made his way to the chair in front of my desk by way of looking out at the scenery overlooking Seventh Avenue where my office building was located. I hadn’t even seen the skyline yet and he had. But I knew it must have been spectacular, when Charles said, “I bet you haven’t seen this view, or you’d have those drapes open. Come on, take a look with me.”

I thought nothing of humoring him because he was paying my salary along with others, but he appeared to require much more attention to accompany a substantial check that he wrote to the firm to represent him. I reluctantly strolled over to the windows, and I became breathless. Not because I was standing and eyeing a gorgeous man who knew his worth on and off the screen and the bedroom as well, but because after seeing the Manhattan skyline I didn’t want to be anywhere else. This had been a dream of mine forever.

We stood gazing over the city, and he pointed out his apartment. “See over there. That’s where I live.” It was that part of Manhattan where apartments went for over ten million dollars and that was on a lower floor, but Charlie had indicated that it was near the penthouse. Charles didn’t come right out and say it, but I was sure he’d get around to it.

“Why don’t you come over sometime. I don’t bite unless you want me to.” I narrowed my glance. “Come on now. It’s not as if I’m trying to pick you up unless you want me to. At the moment I’m available. No one’s going to stake a claim on me.” I wondered why, and then I didn’t. He was one of those arrogant young dicks who had to place his cock in any willing hole, but to his dismay I wasn’t going to be one of them.

I had been in love with Daniel forever and there was no way in hell I was going to mess that up with a dude who would try to get out of any arrangement he found himself in.

He turned and looked at me and placed his arm over my shoulder. “Imagine being on the thirty-first floor. Imagine what you would see and what you could do up there.” He winked at me. “With me as a client, and my money after you get me out of that horrible television streaming show, there’s nothing you won’t ask Max for that he won’t give you. You just need to take good care of his money-making clients... And that’s me.”

It was easy to dream of what I could do at my age. I’d already accomplished a lot by working my ass off and making sacrifices, but I wasn’t about to stick it out so I could get fucked by the irresistible Mr. Charles St John. I could resist his charms, even if others couldn’t.

“Look Charles—”

“See you are warming up to me already. You said you wouldn’t call me Charles on our first date. And this is our first date, and already I have you wrapped around my finger.” What nerves the little shit had.

“I don’t know if I can get you out of that contract, but I will try. As long as you haven’t done anything illegal, then we have a chance. However, I have to take a look at the contract first. Is there anything in the contract, or have you done anything that will cause them to give a hard no?”

“I’m not sure, but Max has the contract, and you should have it by now.” That was my opening to get rid of him because I had invested enough time with this prima donna. This little drama queen must have been caught in many dramas before and since he became legal.

“Sit down. This is going to take a few.” He smiled. “Do you want something to drink or eat?” I asked as I sauntered to the door and stuck my head in Abbey’s office. “Abbey, will you get me Mr. St. John’s papers, and two bottles of water, then order two sandwiches from the deli downstairs.” I turned to Charles, “Turkey or roast beef?” I didn’t give him a choice. He was the type when you gave too many choices he would go through all the possibilities, and I didn’t want to be with him any longer than necessary.

“Turkey with cheese.”

“Abbey, order a turkey with cheese, and a beef.” He looked surprised at the sparse and quick lunch he was about to have, but I knew if he’d made it to Los Angeles from New York, he’d honed his ways and acting skills at an early age. I could have asked him his age, but I’d get all the information I needed once Abbey brought in his file.

“I’d like to take you to dinner today,” he said in a sexy soft voice, watching me with a small sexy smile.
