He frowns at me. “I’m not climbing on a chair, either.”
“I didn’t climb on a chair.”
He huffs. “Then how in the… oh.” He walks over to the corner of the room and grabs his cane that’s leaning against the wall. It’ll be the next step after the walker, but we ended up buying it at the same time as the walker so we have it on hand. Once he has it in his hand, he squints up at the spider and tilts his head. “Is that thing taped up there?”
“Um… so I used the tape to hold it on the end of the cane when I was putting it up there, but I sorta had to wipe it off up there, so the tape stuck to the light.” I stare at the spider. “If you can’t get it, I’ll climb on the table.”
He snorts and reaches with the cane and tries for a few minutes, then sighs. “It’s stuck.”
“I’ll get it.”
He laughs a little. “No, wait. As funny as I think it’d be to watch you climb up there, I think I can get it if I…” he trails off with a grunt as he knocks the spider with the cane. On the third try, he finally knocks it down and it falls onto the table. Drix holds his arm up in the air and makes a sound like a crowd cheering, and I crack up.
“And you didn’t want to play.”
He chuckles and drops the cane, putting it back, then shrugs. “Okay, so sue me for having fun with it.”
I smile widely. “I told you this would be fun.”
He shakes his head but scoops up the fallen spider, throws it in the pumpkin bucket, and moves toward the front door, picking a spider off a picture frame with both dogs behind him. I have a huge smile on my face as I follow him, happy that he’s not only putting up with my craziness, but that he’s having fun with it, too.
As I follow him around for ten minutes, I decide that this was the best plan ever because I can ogle his ass without him wondering why I’m behind him or why I’m staring.
“This is, what? Number twenty-five? Is that all of them?” he asks.
I have to shake myself out, and forcefully move my gaze from his ass to his face when he looks over his shoulder. I’m pretty sure he knows I was checking him out, but he doesn’t say anything, thank god. I lick my lips, then say, “Um… what?”
He stares at me for several beats before asking, “I found twenty-five, is that all of them?”
I lick my lips again. “Uh, no. Nope, not even close.” I shoot him a grin when I finally shake myself out of my crazy.
He sighs. “You’re a real pain in the ass, Gav. I hope you know that.”
“I do.”
He snorts out a laugh, then points above my head. “Found one.” He walks closer, and instead of backing up like any normal person would do, I stand still and stare. He either doesn’t notice how close he’s standing to me, or he doesn’t care. Of course, he’s not over there harboring secret sex dreams about me, so it’s probably no big deal for him.
He puts the walker beside me, then reaches over my head so his chest is touching my shoulder. I gasp at the small touch and close my eyes as his cologne washes over me.Did he really put cologne on before leaving his bedroom? Or maybe it’s left over from yesterday?
Drix mumbles, “I can’t reach it.”
I glance over my head and see that he’s only just out of reach, so without thinking too much about it, I grab his hips—instead of moving out of the way like I should—and say, “I’ve got you.”
He grunts and leans even farther into me, then snatches the spider up and grins, that super-sexy smile I love—although they’re all sexy, honestly—and he grabs ahold of his walker with one hand. But he doesn’t step back. He swallows audibly as he looks down at me. His sapphire blue eyes darken as his gaze runs over my face. And for a moment, I swear he focuses on my mouth.
My lips part and his eyes dart back up, taking me in. I’m frozen in place, wondering what he’s going to do. When he leans in, my eyes widen in surprise because I know he’s about to kiss me.
Wait. Drix is going to kiss me? Why does he want to kiss me?
Do I want him to kiss me?
Do I really have to ask myself that?
Oh god, I really want him to kiss me.
His lips are only a hairsbreadth from mine, and I panic and squeal a little on the inside because he’s really going to press those sexy lips to mine.Drix is going to kiss me!A tiny gasp falls from my lips, and Drix’s gaze darts back down to my mouth, then up to my eyes, and instead of the darkened shade from a moment ago, all I see is panic.
He clears his throat and leans back, then grabs his walker and takes a few steps away from me, muttering, “Thanks.”
